This neither lives in or around the US, nor Europe.
I said it is organic, so what is sought for is not a volcano (but they play a major role for its existence, in a lot of aspects).
It has only be found in a few locations.

Also called volcano snail or scaly-foot gastropod, Chrysomallon squamiferum lives at a depth of 2400 to 2900 meters at some points along the geotectonic rift in the indian ocean, near hydothermal wells also called "black smokers", in temperatures up to 750 degrees Fahrenheit or 399 degrees Celsius.

There is iron embedded in its housing as in those scales you can see on the photos. You can pick it up with a magnet.
It's shell is so tough that some engineers think about military armour based on the material.
