So is it all over now? Or is there still more to the final season?:

I still don't quite get the thing. Never seen one show, don't want to.
But, then, never been into the D&D thing myself. |

Game of Thrones prequel starts filming, and its location is familiar.

I am currently watching the complete series via Bluray again. It a decade since I saw the first season, and later seasons got broadcasted over here once a year. So it really is some time.
I must say that not before now, while I watch all seasons and episodes in quick succession, I realise all the many details in the many narration strings, all the loose ends being tied together, the random small events in this or that brief scene that get picked up and remembered in another scene a few episodes later, that it all comes together and falls into its right place. Its like with a big piece of classical music, say a symphony. Sometimes you must listen to it several times before you have become aware of all subtle nuances and individual instruments' roles in it. Its the same with this series. My appreciation for GOT has grown tremendousls, now that I have compelted 6 seaosns of 8. Funny, the same experience I currently also make with another series from several years ago: the new version of Battlestar Galactica. The same here: you watch it and stay aware of so many small details that fit into the narration that back then escaped your memoryspan because the broadcasting covered so long time. Just that GOT is more complex. In both series, this weighs the heavier because there is an ongoing story spanning from first to last episode, its not like a crime series where every epsiode tells one complete story that is finished at the end of those 50 minutes. I encourage to watch it all again, if you liked it the first time. Its greater fun than the first time, for me at least.

Agreed but what spoilt it for me was the lightning quick ending.

I liked the ending. John Snow marrying Danaerys and both living happily while the kids play in the garden - that would have spoilt it for me.
Also, the series ended like it began and thus was very consistent and stayed true to itself: without mercy heroes ands villains alike: heads off! Let the Seven sort them out.

I thought this was a pretty accurate summation of the series.

Summary of the last episode of the season:
Before her trial, Cersei destroys the Sept of Baelor by wildfire, killing the High Sparrow, the Tyrells, Lancel and Kevan Lannister, hundreds of nobles, and the Faith Militant; Qyburn has Pycelle killed. Cersei reveals her incest with Jamie and that she killed Robert Baratheon to Septa Unella before having Ser Gregor Clegane, torture her until she dies. Distraught over Margaery's death, Tommen commits suicide. In Dorne, Varys meets with Olenna and Ellaria, seeking an alliance between Daenerys and their Houses against the Lannisters. Davos confronts Melisandre over Princess Shireen's death, resulting in Jon banishing her. Led by Lyanna Mormont, the Wildlings and the surviving northern houses pledge loyalty to Jon as King of the North. Sansa rebuffs Littlefinger's romantic overtures. Arya kills Walder Frey and his sons. Sam and Gilly reach the Citadel in Oldtown. Benjen accompanies Brandon and Meera to the Wall but is unable to go further. In a vision, Bran sees Ned finding Lyanna Stark as she lies dying after giving birth (to Jon Snow) during King Robert's rebellion. Jaime returns to King's Landing, and Cersei crowns herself Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Daenerys names Tyrion Hand of the Queen and sails for Westeros with the Greyjoys, her armies, and her dragons, leaving Daario Naharis and the Second Sons behind to rule Meereen until new leaders are elected.
