To the OP

How old are you?

Your post read like that of an angsty teenager, that gives angsty teenagers a bad name.

Sorry to have to say that, but that is what went through my mind when I read that post of yours.

Most of the complaints you stated have been dealt with how all Silent Hunter game problems have been dealt with. By great modders.

Take a look at the mods forum.

The game is not "terrible" it is incomplete.

Just like Sh2, 3 and especially4. But unlike 4, there seem to be few if any "fatal flaws", like the "the dive of death" or "the suicidal watch crew"

Give it time.

The biggest issue for me is the DRM, and screwy engine sounds.

I am discouraged to play the game beyond testing mods, so I would agree that the game as such is terrible. Graphics look nice though.

but that is not school... you are not guided in the techniques of moving, you have limited control, Orders are not clear, and if you fail the tuorial, you never get anywhere.

in shIII you had control over your sub during the OPTIONAL tutorials, the only thing that changed was the weapons systems available...

This sort of FPS tutorial is ridiculous to say the least...

Silent hunter 5 is another matter. This game has fallen from grace. It is not only not a fun game, not only can you not do the things it wants you to do like climb ladders and select dialog in many aspects, but the graphic intensity is ridiculous.

In Silent hunter 4, I could add every option in the graphics and my Intel i7 processor would have it working like water. Also, it would show in 1980x1080 because I have an HD computer. Silent hunter 5, won't even play smootly on my powerful computer. I don't know if it is the required internet connection or what (which is a turn off).
well if you such a great fan, how come you only have ONE post here and didn;t join untill march this year lol....

The game you talk off doesn;'t sound anything like my SH5 either, climbing ladders is NO problem, and dialogs are NO problem and GRAPHICS are awesome and smooth on my old PC??????
I only have an AMD 6400 duo cpu at 3.3Ghz
windows 7
4GB of DDR ram
and an ATI4870

I have all my graphics up to MAX and it plays smooth?

maybe you PC is nOT as good as you think?

Their time is better spent expanding games with a better base (ie SH4+UB addon) instead of doing what the developer were supposed to and that customers already paid.
Speaking from a modding position. SH5 is far superior base to previous releases. The other ones are so inferior as a matter of fact, that I'd never consider them usable for what I plan to do. And believe me, I plan a lot.

It's because you have an ATI cards. You absolutely MUST turn off shadows on an NVIDIA card to get a smooth experience.

You're being overly cynical.

Look, I don't like that SH5 is unfinished either, but but like it or not, that's the reality, and no amount of grumbling or ranting or tantrum-spamming is going to change that. You can't just sulk in the corner like some disappointed child and say that you're giving it up on a matter of principle.

Two years from now, I want SH5 to be a thriving game with its own patches, mods, and supermods (or at least unreleased, soon-to-be-finished super mods). I don't want people to say, "sure, it had wolfpacks and milk cows and advanced teamwork with AI forces, but we let it die because having fun would send the wrong message".

This is very curious..... Ubi.. "Here is this unfinished canvas, for sale reasonable price"

The modders reply "we see great potential here" ...

The rest of us... gee cant wait !

Also wondering if any modders are holding back in anticipation of a patch.

Oh? Was Ubi advertising SH5 as unfinished? Are they selling it at an 'unfinished' price? No and no.
