By the cover of night we snug into a small harbor around the Luzon-strait, hydrophones picked up two small vessels patrolling the harbor entrance. In the shallow water there was only a small chance the patrol boats would pick us up with their sonar so we entered the harbor silently.
We took a peek with the periscope and there she was; a beautiful maru sitting stationary in the middle of he harbor. There were also a few other marus docked.

The sun was coming up and we didn't want to stay in the shallow harbor too long in daylight so we took position and fired 2 fish, had one dud and the other causing slight damage. The patrols turned out to be two small subchasers and rushed to the entrance of the harbor so we took of at flank speed and while making our escape fired 2 fish at a "medium-something" and it went straight down to davy jones'..

As we passed the harbor entrance we alined the aft tubes with the crippled maru and fired...... Both hit and the maru broke in two pieces as she went down.

One subchaser followed us for a while but was unable to get a fix on us so we made a nice clean escape to deeper waters. Only two merchants went down but the men and I were satisfied.

Hunting the Hunters
Every now and again it sure feels good to turn around and give those bloody destroyers a shock.

Scratch 1

Scratch 2

Never noticed this before. Crew on the after deck shouting for help. Nice touch.

Hit this one right in the forward magazine.
