This painting by Michael Turner shows a British Wessex helicopter 'Humphrey' dropping depth charges on the Argentine submarine Santa Fe. The Santa Fe was badly damaged and had to limp back to port and was abandoned.

This painting by Michael Turner shows the Harriers taking off in the atrocious conditions that were all too common in the South Atlantic.

This painting by Robert Taylor gives an impression of the sizeable fleet assembled by the British. The Argentine timing was terrible as the British had already sold its remaining Aircraft Carriers but had not yet delivered them to their purchasers. It is difficult to see how the British could have achieved the retaking of the islands without the support provided from the Aircraft Carriers.

This painting by Joe Beetham illustrates the fact that the Argentines had surrendered before the British had reached Stanley itself. Therefore, there was to be no street fighting and it was a fairly straightforward advance into the port itself.

The task force and troops returned to a heroes' welcome back in Britain. The political capital saved Margaret Thatcher's government and allowed her to return to a landslide victory in the general election of 1983.
