Houston, we have a problem!!!! A DD rolled me over and it stayed like this. The only way out was to dive the boat which made it surface!

Wouldn't be long before everybody blacked out from standing on their head. Bet a mod is responsible for that?

Note my steadfast crew at their post. Could be a Japanese sub around we can use the cannon on

Been some times ago since I posted some screenies here..
So here some from my first patch 1.4 patrol (and first manual targeting patrol) First some nice shots.. SH4 on it's best After a few days of sailing I encountered a very large taskforce. 4 big carriers, 1 BB, 2 cruisers and several DD's.. and all of them tried to nail me.. 3 direct hits on the Hiryu.. She's going down.. Last look on a sinking carrier |

I use all ROW parts excl. all ship and object reflections and sky and water controls. I have modified the scene.dat myself (horizon and lightning part) for bettter compability with patch 1.4. The only Row problem I have encountered is flickering after using TC. But this can be minimized by going back to 0 after TC. |

Well, seeing I'm new to sub sims, here is the story of the best patrol so far in my career. Got orders to sail out of Manilla and patrol east of Celebes Sea. Got there and sank 4 merchants and 1 warship. The 4th merchant ship was detected by sonar in heavy fog and visually couldn't see him at all from the deck. I followed the signals and I was so close to him yet cannot see him. All of a sudden to my port side about 50 feet was a large composite ship with some Japanese crew members looking at me. Needless to say I needed a fresh pair of boxer shorts.:rotfl:Couldn't use no torps so manned the deck gun, made enough space and sank him. Making my way home and at that time the fog left. A fast destroyer was coming for me. I had just surfaced and batteries were low. Ony two forward torps left. Another clean boxer shorts needed.:rotfl:What to do? Can't outrun him. So I lined up directly on his bow, waited until he was close enough and getting shelled like hell, damages increasing. Sent the two torps into the destroyer's bow and whammo! the torps may have went under him and split his hull in two. Returned to base beaten up but alive. Got a wounded medal for my efforts.

USS Gudgeon 1st War Patrol
I'm playing patch 1.3, TM-1.6.5, with a modded version of RSRDC v110.
Took Gudgeon on her 1st war patrol 8 DEC1941. Destination was the E China Sea. Departed Pearl and topped off at Midway a couple of days later, then headed for the patrol area. 2 nights out of Midway, ran smack dab right into the Japanese task force headed for Wake. Spotted a Fubuki class destroyer and a Maya class cruiser. By luck, I was ahead of the group and slightly to the east. Got the Maya's base course and made an approach on the surface. As I was getting into position, the Fubuki veered towards me. Dove to 275' then popped up to PD approx 10 minutes later. There, in my periscope was a Hiryu class carrier just to the SW. Best range at firing time was around 1800 yds. For some reason, they were only making about 10 knots. Set torps for low speed and shot all 6 bow tubes. Ahead full, hard to port, to bring the stern tubes to bare. Shot 2 stern tubes. I hit her with 5 or 6 torpedos. Listing heavily to port when the Fubuki drove me under. Took her down to 275' and rigged for silent running. On the way down, got the message "She's going down". To quote Kossler "That baby sank". Evaded to the west for a few hours, surfaced and tried to pursue along the TF's base course at flank speed, but, was forced under by several air craft and no advanced warning. Hmm....what's going on with our SD radar. Finally broke off and headed towards the patrol area. A couple of days later, nearing Iwo Jima, we were surprised again by a patrol plane - no advance radar warning. Hard to port and dove. The plane dropped a bomb which exploded just to port, damaging the deck gun and causing heavy leaking. So, returned to Pearl and was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal. As I was browsing my boat's systems at Pearl, noticed we had no SD radar on board ! Finally figured out I had to use some my new reknown to get one installed. Every other boat I've had already had one in. Next patrol assignment is just to the south of Tokyo Bay. |
