I just had a phenomenal outing in the Celtic Sea, 11 ships sent to the bottom including a carrier on an outbound convoy over the course of a three day engagement. the escorts had a tough time in the rough sea state, but i was almost hit by the boys at RAF coastal command in their pesky bombers on three separate occasions narroly evading with a crash dive each time. encountered 4 unescorted merchants inbound on the way home... made it back to port with empty tubes and all deck gun ammo expended... nothing but AAA ammo aboard. 69,999 grt to our credit

The patrol before that was tedium, 27 days at sea, long periods of fog and rain broken up by rough seas with some sun peaking through the clouds, but not so much as a row boat encountered until the return voyage i had a complete chance encounter with a neutral merchant, boarded it, it was loaded to the gunwales with ammunition and spare parts, so i set scuttling charges in the engine room and sent her down after ordering the crew off the ship... that was my only prize. went home with not a shot fired.

Seems pretty accurate as far as history goes, some patrols better than others
