Good one eddie, my concern with the U.K.'s plan helps me with my own understanding of what I might expect here.

What's True

The Trump administration's proposed 2021 budget includes cuts to the CDC's activities related to chronic disease.

What's False

Congress hasn't approved the budget, so CDC funding in 2021 remains unclear.

In case you are wondering coronavirus such as COVID-19 is classified as an infectious disease not a chronic disease. But I'm sure you knew that didnt you? Jeez its so obviously I'm not as smart as you I always thought Congress held the purse strings, oh wait, they do!. Would you mind telling me what budget cuts are you talking about and when did the democratic majority in congress approve these budget cuts?

Cold-Eeze lozenges is one brand available, but there are other brands available.

I just had coronavirus fighting meal of a slow cooked chuck roast with carrots and potatoes bathed in rendered fat and Tennessee whiskey marinade gravy followed up with half a bag of Oreo double stuff cookies and milk.

Colleague of whistleblower doctor Li Wenliang dies of coronavirus.
Quote:
A Wuhan doctor, from the same department as whistleblower doctor Li Wenliang, died from coronavirus on Tuesday, according to Wuhan Central Hospital.

Mei Zhongming was the 57-year-old chief doctor and deputy director of the ophthalmology department at Wuhan Central Hospital, and was Dr. Li’s superior.

South Korea announces 974 new cases today.
Quote:
The South Korean government has announced another 374 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 5,186.

That follows an earlier announcement of 600 cases -- making nearly 1,000 new infections reported in the past 24 hours.
https://edition.cnn.com/asia/live-ne...hnk/index.html

Damn. Very disturbing numbers.

On average, 20% of those infected (~1,000 so far) will require hospitalization. Their medical facilities in the epicenter of Daegu City must already be at a breaking point. Expect the number of deaths there to dramatically rise soon.

20% of UK workforce could be off sick in coronavirus outbreak.
Quote:
The British government has said that "it is possible that up to one fifth of employees may be absent from work" during the peak of a coronavirus epidemic in the UK.

According to its coronavirus action plan, published Tuesday, "police would concentrate on responding to serious crimes and maintaining public order" in the case of a significant loss of officers and staff.
https://edition.cnn.com/asia/live-ne...hnk/index.html

I'm sorry, but if this virus spreads in the UK like it has in China and South Korea, it's going to be a lot higher than 20%, not only due to those hospitalized, but also those under mandatory quarantine. I wouldn't be surprised if that number rises to 50% in some cities.

Also, most police departments and hospitals are already understaffed and overworked, so they'll get hit particularly hard.

I don't like to be a pessimist or an alarmist but I can't help but wonder what will happen if this virus gets into some of the homeless populations on the American west coast.

If you have not seen Contagion, stop, spoilers.

I made this supercut that details the story arc of Kate Winslet as Dr. Erin Mears in Contagion. I found her character the most compelling: professional, dedicated, courtageous and willingly to step directly into the front line of this battle.
