Having a bad day?
Posit AN1684
(5) Tommys have me encircled; then, two more show up from the NE. I'm crawling across the bottom @58m. Crap.

After a cupla beers and three hrs. of dragging my clam-digger across the bottom...sorry, it'll have to be the "Kobayashi Maru" solution.
(the philosophy here is simple, it's far better to view the body on the morgue slab than the other way around.)

19400719 1450 There are now (8) DDs circling. With all the wabos being dropped, criss-crossing us from every point of the compass all we can do is, constantly change our depth, speed and zig-zag. Poseidon must be looking after us as we, still, appear to be alive. The overhead lighting flickers with each stick of wabos being dropped. The men nearby seem to glow in the dark as all their blood has drained from their faces.
19400719 1509 O^2 supply has run out and we're now using our ambient supply. The DDs have not let up. We're being pummeled. We have damage to bow and stern tubes. Its pure bedlam as the L.I. and his gang of greasy faced delinquents run about the boat brandishing wrenches, hammers, and pry-bar trying to keep us in one piece. //GEHEIM// 23 July 1940 0743Z To: BdU From: Adm Cannaris, B-dienst Subject: Uboat 27, Lost at Sea. A. Loss of U27 and all hands, most probable. 1. Our telegraphers inform me that U27 has missed three consecutive radio contacts. 2. U27 was last heard, officially, on 110500Z Jul 1940 per Message Number 39; however, his position and situation reports were transmitted on a daily schedule for Communication-security purposes and evaluation of SOI and Radio wave, High Frequency spectrum usage. 3. Three missed, mandatory, radio contacts indicate that U27 has either been captured, sunk, or compromised. 4. Other sources and means indicate that U27 was sunk by multiple depth-charge attack while attempting E & E tactics in shallow waters off the coast of Duncansby Head, Scotland (AN1684), Lat. 58°21.0'N, Lon. 002°24.0'W. a. Same sources and means further indicate that U27 was sunk by Hunter-Killer group operating nearby where U27 had successfully sunk an Ore Carrier for 1811 GRT. B. It is with great regret that B-dienst must inform your command of this loss. Respectfully, Adm. Wilhelm F. Cannaris, Abwehr, Commanding //GEHEIM//
