New to the SubSim but seems like a fun game but a few questions - Page 2

I modded my steam version and haven't had any trouble with running 1.2 unless that patcher does something else I don't know about.

You can use all mods with it. The only thing that wont work is the tdw patcher which fixes many bugs

Ok I think im on the right path here. I can run the mods but the TDW Patcher fixes most bugs and I can only get it through the silent hunter 5 DVD executable. Ok so I guess Ill go out and comb the net and see if someone has uploaded the DVD exe and then if I get lucky and find it Ill replace it with mine. You would think someone out there in the world has uploaded it.

I looked around for a roster of everyone on the site and I found the Captains Roster. Is his name just Gap or is it something with Gap in it lol.

Yea sorry, just stating that its cheap on Amazon for the disc. I agree, surely there must be a way to copy the steam installation and replace the .exe to another folder, thats cool.

Is it the .exe that is different or is it steam verifying the game at launch that changes mods to the executable?

If I need another exe I'd like to search around as well, I don't feel like buying another copy and waiting around, money being what it is and all.

What if I never played the game from steams application or I moved the installation out of steam and used JSGME and always used the exe in the folder.

Would steam still be able to change the executable if I moved the game say... ProgramFiles--Ubisoft

afaik, this should work. Steam checks it's install dir ... copy tho, so you dont muck the steam version up

As far as I know steam isn't doing anything that I can visibly see when I start the game from the exe in the folder. Ive combed over tons and tons of pages and surprisingly I cant find it anywhere. Maybe Gap can hook us up

The steam sh5.exe is not the sh5.exe .. it's a program that fetches the real .exe in memory. That's why it cannot be patched.

Perhaps if you replace the exe and run that instead of starting it through steam, steam wont 'repair' your installation .. you'd have to test tho.

Im doing this way and it works i play the steam version with the .exe of the dvd version

I think that would be akin to piracy .. and surely not legal, as everybody and their dog would be able to download it .. and while it's not the complete product, I doubt regulation makes a distinction.
