I remember him as Alfred in Tim Burton's Batman. I don't remember Out of Africa as I was fairly young when that came out, and everything else he's starred in I've most likely never seen. So it's Alfred that I remember him as.

Rest in peace, dear man. The world is a bit less charming without you.

I wonder how many other than myself would have gotten that reference if you had said nothing else but that?

Arrivederci, Michael Gough.

Ok is that the guy who starred in the thing about the guy who was trying to build a clock that would work properly on board a big ol' sailing ship?

If I'm remembering the name right he was also Dumbledore in the Harry Potter films after Richard Harris died. I didn't think I would like anyone else in the part but he was great.

I picked up on the "Toymaker" refernce because I'm a perverse Doctor Who fan. I also loved him as Tolstoy in The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.

As for both Longitude and Harry Potter, that was Michael Gambon.

Michael Gough was mainly a character actor who was in a whole bunch of stuff over a whole lot of years.

Right, duh.

I can picture Gough in my mind now, totally different guy.

Enjoyed his work too though, RIP good sir.
