I was using the channel until late 40 without problems. Saw some mines but never had any problems with them since I mostly hunted with my deck gun and only went to periscope depth when in danger. Never spotted anything bigger than a medium merchant there though.

You should of just surfaced and took it out with your Deck gun.. I hear its all the rage!
