Would the Singapore government really have so much power abroad that they can command an Indonesian Internet Provider?
Or how else would they achieve the "capping"?

Maybe you should check out with your direct neighbours, see if they have similar problems. If so, it's probably just some technical problem.

I may choose to stop my current internet subscription. I don't pay to get pissed. I may not be checking this forum or the internet for a while when I do.
Wouldn't that be exactly what they want?

Anyway, I wish you all the best - it needs courage to stand up against such a government

Umm the answer would be yes. My past several years experience has shown that the little Singapore has A LOT to say here in my third world countries. I must assume money is the main source of influence.

Of course the regime picks what kind of people to antagonize.

For example they let go wholly a British man who painted graffiti on the city train recently where he supposed to be punished by canning(beating) that would leave permanent scars on anybody's back The law is retained from British colonial era that was put in use to deter pro independence slogan from being displayed in public. It's quite a barbaric punishment for a petty crime but the regime didn't dare to antagonize citizens from developed countries especially if the person is holding a high ranking business position. But for the rest of the people coming from lesser countries and the kind of countries that couldn't care less with their citizen well they'll treat them as they like.

You're welcome to read my blog especially my first entry and I wasn'tand I'm not exactly a courageous man but if you trample over a person long enough sooner and later he would find out it is no use to remain passive and
tolerant especially when he has done nothing to deserve such treatment. Truth is I've felt numb to fear which is actually not a good thing. As someone defined courage as feeling fear but continue going nonetheless. I would not fit into that definition .

Hey uhh just a thought but are you able to swap out the modem and or router?

Also try known good cables.

Maybe update drivers for the NIC.

Is it a wireless router? Try other channels.. survey the neighborhood for the 'popular' channels and avoid them.

Just a couple of quick thoughts.

the possibility of it being a bad router has crossed my mind - but you wouldn't expect the internet speeds to vary with the time of day, if it were just bad hardware...

Default virus? gamer chat software?

I'd suspect your machine may have memory problems plus a possible virus. My son had a very slow system and there were two problems. His memory was eaten up every boot time by chat and game launch software that automatically loaded up and he had about 7 virus' one of which was in his boot sector.

If you have those memory hogs loaded, and there is traffic going on to update those...

You think you have it bad ? Every night for the past three weeks at exactly 9:00 PM, all my computers lose connection and I have to reset my modem and wireless router. My ISP claims that it's not a problem on their end. I've tested everything and everythng seems to be in proper order. My wireless channel is set to the absolute best signal it can do (and considering that this apartment is really small and the router doesn't have to broadcast more than maybe 10 feet with nothing in between in all directions means that I should have a good connection).
I've tested my connection over and over again, and EVERY NIGHT at EXACLTLY 9 pm, the connection drops out.

Yea I scanned my PC and there's no virus reported. Using COMODO CIS.

Though I noted since several weeks ago my system is loading quite slow at start-up but couldn't find what's wrong with it(had a thread about it in subsim).

Still that couldn't explain the always good connection from 4.30AM to 10AM.

If it just drops out then a restart would fix the problem then it's not that bad but if it prevented you from connecting to the internet for some hours then it's bad.

Oh well I'll wait for a month or two and if things wouldn't improve I may end my cable subscription and choose another. Better that than being pissed everyday and paying for it. The thing is the speed drops to unacceptable level( broadband wise) rendering it unfit to be called such.

I looked in the internet and found many user with the same ISP as mine experiencing degraded performance after the ISP announced their migration to now Mega speed network just about a month ago from what usually hundreds of kbps. The biggest hit is from the international connections.

Ah well at least now I know now it's most likely the ISP. Bad ISP bad ISP . . . it feels more like a downgrade than an upgrade well at least it's Mega speed between 4.30 to a little more than 10 AM everyday which means my internet is now CRAP 80 percent of the time. Come to think of it Mega speed could mean both side of extremes, mega fast between 4.30-10Am and mega slow anytime else after all they didn't quite call it Mega Fast .
