Thanks all, very kind. Here are a couple of shots taken on a camera phone which I doubt he'll appreciate me posting

Anyone that read the HBO Game of Thrones thread http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...&postcount=297 may recall that he was in Dubrovnik at the back end of August eating in a restaurant at 'Kings Landing' at the foot of the steps where Cersei commenced her 'walk of shame'.

Phone image but a picture nonetheless (James is the one standing next to the young lady).

I remember some words exchanged some time ago on a forgotten topic to the effect of where did England go? Well, I think you see it pictured above in that young seafarer. Good job Mr. & Mrs Jimbuna.

Really proud of you and your son ... I bet you can't stop bragging about him in your other life. You do have another life, right Jim?

Tell us a sea story your son told you this week ...

Been off the boards a few days and just catching up...

Congrats to the Young Buna for his well deserved promotion and congrats to you and the Missus for raising such a fine child.

In the photo of Young Buna in his dress uniform, doesn't he rather look like one of those young Kaleunts you see in those old photos?...

That is a good photo of him. After a few months at sea, he'll look like this.

Thank you Sir and tbh he hasn't been as storytelling like as he usually is because this last trip being his last with this part of the company meant he had many friends he has acquired over the past five years to say goodbye to.

He is looking forward to living in Venice though until he comes home for Christmas so that is a couple of the positives I suppose.

Tell James to be carefull when he leaves port

Quote:
The Carnival Vista, the largest cruise ship in Carnival’s fleet, pulled out of the Port of Messina in Sicily, Italy, recently with quite the head of steam, leaving an estimated $280,000 worth of damage in its wake. Literally. As the 134,000-ton cruise ship pulled out of port, its engines churned up the water and created a mini-tsunami that slammed into the Marina del Nettuno. The strong wake overturned concrete docks that sank boats, as shown in the amazing CCTV footage above provided by the Daily Mail. The $780,000 cruise ship that launched in May continued on its merry way apparently oblivious to the destruction it left behind

Well, no wonder they had a problem with the ship: what would you expect from a mammoth cruise ship that only cost "$780,000"? Cheap does as cheap is...

Didn't take long for his reply:

Quote:
Yeah, from the video link you sent me that's normal, we do exactly the same for that port. You need to build up speed fast otherwise the current which is generally setting you to the north carries you onto the breakwater which would not be a good day.
You find during the summer months they put out extra floating pontoons around the ports, as the ships are getting bigger they generate more power in their propulsion to get the ship moving.

So yeah, sods law really.

His next vessel (when completed) is a good 40,000 tons smaller so it probably won't be such an issue.
