As it goes, these are directly from the Rubin website and are not my own personal pictures ive quoted directly from there.

So if anyone is at fault sure aint me its them, oh and i do think they know what they put into thier submarines seeing as they design them.

USS Holland had a Dog Mascot.

Hell one diesel boat had a Skunk! (To quote Down Periscope: "I bet you never seen that on one of them big nucs!")

As for Russians with pets onboard, a few boats and pet rats and well if you need proof about dogs and cats:

Yea that boat didn't only have a dog but fish too.

I think a U-Boat had some mascot fish in WWII, one was named Churchill but it was killed in an attack by a US patrol plane.

Eh, those russian resting areas are nothing compared to the ones we have in our Polish submarines.

Nah. If those were Polish women, there'd only be two per oar. Nice boobs, though.

The captain and XO have always had a bit of leeway as far as Navy regulations. A few pets aren't that big of a deal. But when you start converting the ward-room/theatre room into a friggin' daylight room, with potted plants and tanning bulbs and background waterfall sounds (albeit, quietly), that is a whole other matter.

I would guess that the green carpets are pulled up and stowed on the walls, and that's actually a mess-room or the old political education room.

Pretty crazy to see, though. I don't think we've got anything like that on our subs, although the crew jogs around the silo-deck on boomers. Something wicked like 8 laps per mile (1.6km).

There is some exersize equipment that can be folded stored near the back of the boat.

As for rooms like that in the US Navy, well the old diesels were fairly close:
