We're doing fairly well for ourselves, yes. Seven times more territory offshore than on land, and 1/3 of Europe's combined land and sea territory. This from a country that makes up only 4.7 of Europe's 731 million people.

Will be very interesting to see how we keep up when the oil runs out (or simply goes out of fashion).

Border disputes will probably go on for a long time still. They're not the nicest country in the world. Looking at the state of Chechnya and Georgia, you should probably be glad you even have a sovereign nation.
