Really interesting and shows a mistake in IL-2 concerning the so called Mig-3 UD, it never existed as a particular type. |

It's a pity the MiG-3 model wasn't updated for IL-2 1946
You can tell it is n't as complicated poly wise as many other aircraft. Still it looks good. A pity the two templates I have are pretty crap so painting it is an arse. |

I did not fly IL2 a lot but the MIG-3 was one of my favorite plane. I installed a decent skin of that famous white / red version. And I have always been fascinated by a famous incident when Mig3's forced two extremely high flying Ju88s to land in Moscow.

Global what was that incident? do you have a link?
I find I am having most success in this plane compared to any other I have flown. |

I read this in an old GDR book when I was a kid ("Sovietische Jagdflugzeuge" by Wilfried Kopenhagen), and I can still give the gist of the story.
The Luftwaffe used Ju86P recon planes (with diesel engines) at altitudes of ~11.000m and they thought they were untoucheable at this height until the day some MiG3 appeared and forced their landing at Moscow. Of course, the Russians were mightily proud of having closed that technological gap. Reminds one of the U-2 incident actually.

Well it could be an embellished reference to the intercept attempt described here, in the same website:
<http://mig3.sovietwarplanes.com/mig3/I-230.html> It doesn't claim a capture, but they scared them off for the future. quote: "The D aircrafts of 12 GvIAP reached some limited success, for example, during 1942/43 German high-altitude reconnaissance planes Ju-86 sometimes flew safely over Moscow, at the altitude of 13 km where they were unreachable for fighters or AA fire. Once two pilots from 12 GIAP, Edik Nalivaiko with an high-altitude Yak-9D and Lionia Samohvalov with a Mig-3U, succeeded to get 1 km close to a Ju-86, without reaching it. Nevertheless, after that, such flights over Moscow were stopped." |

Yes, MiG 3 was interesting plane, from my point of view he is much better looking the Yak family planes. I allways chose MiG 3 or I 16 when playing for rusian side.
