Default Bipartisan Idiocy

Good to know our elected and appointed officials can agree to try to get SOMETHING done. Behold, the Obama Administration agree with Republican Senator Orrin Hatch's request to look into the legality of the NCAA's Bowl Championship Series.

It makes me proud that, in the grips of a deepening recession, a nationwide debate on healthcare, 2 wars, terrorism concerns, etc., we can find time to worry about how college football awards its championships.

Carlin made a pretty good point about politicians.

I think they call this kind of thing "vote buying".

Maybe it will be enough of a distraction as to reduce the number of other things they can mess up.

Indeed. It's incredibly frustrating, in my opinion.

I think that it is odd that people think that 535 people (congress) and almost 10,000 support staff (Senate and House) can or should only think of or work on only one "important" issue at the same time.

Professional sports is an inter-state commerce issue.

Section 8 of the Constitution: Powers of Congress

Quote:
To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes
That's why congress is, and should be, involved in this issue. It is important and it is their job.

Platapus - its not that they shouldn't work on more than one thing at a time.

Its a matter of priorities. There are more important issues of the People's Business that need attention - that are NOT getting the appropriate amount of attention.

And you don't think the appropriate committees are not working on these issues?

And what issues, in your opinion, are not getting the appropriate amount of attention?

Tax Reform

A decision on the health care bill - *Waiting till everything is "cooled off" about it is the same as saying we will try to pass it in the middle of the night when no one is looking

Realistic health care reform

National security

Election reform

A comprehensive review of the laws that exist currently and getting rid of outdated ones - instead of modifying them over the course of 200+ years and then trying to keep it all straight.

Getting back to government - and laws - back to something a normal person can just read and understand without referencing 500 other documents to see how they all interrelate.

Putting forward a bill that kills earmarks by either side.
