I know that this is a game made by subsim and it's a mind-blowing piece of art. But my question is do all subsim members, or at least the most play this game making it the main subsim at this time, or it's just another very good subsim. Are there any prominent members who never played this game or just don't own it.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of Subsim members who have not played Wolfpack. I think they are waiting for Ubisoft to release SH6

I want to get this on Steam soon, but read somewhere it is quite difficult.
I like difficult games, but difficult multiplayer games can be somewhat intimidating. Mostly since I feel my mistakes, can actually change someone else's gaming experience. Is Wolfpack pretty much the same difficulty as SH3 on 100% realism (quite difficult for a beginning player), but than multiplayer? I checked it out on Steam. It looks incredible. ![]() |

What I dont like is not being able to pause. I can understand not being able too when playing multi player mode. It would be nice to be able to pause in single player as sometimes I have to answer the phone or deal with some unplanned event at the house and have to start a mission from the beginning again.

To tell you the truth as far as i can predict, it's very unlikeable to ever have an sh6. But what it is kinda realistic is a graphic update of sh3 and a community held multiplayer server.

I come back to it periodically, and then realise why I put it down. I'll spend a few free hours starting to learn stuff and then inevitably real life will intervene and I remember there's no save/pause function. I then get frustrated and put it down till the next time. |

It's not as bad as you might think, and there are a lot of guys who are willing to help you get started. Here's a training session I did with a new captain a while back

I think a lot of SH.5 players don´t play the "Wolfpack" game because for Single player modus there is no "Save funktion" or "Pause funktion.

I play both, for me I found it difficult to get the hang of initially, the focus was quite clearly multiplayer but the developers proved to be flexible and more importantly they demonstrated a willingness to adapt based on feedback. Bilateral communication, a rare quality, I wish there were much more of in the games industry Wolfpacks concept and vision I find staggeringly impressive given its Indi status, my only reservation is as above. Its not so much a case of not liking multiplayer, its finding the time to dedicate to a team effort uninterrupted, it places me in an uncomfortable position of obligation, or at least it feels that way. Over time I've pretty much mastered the game, aided by the developers solo player user friendly adaptations. A bit of time and persistence in learning the games mechanics pays off in bucket loads its a good investment of free time Simon

I think many players are put off by the fact that this is : 1) a "hardcore" sim (no easy targeting mode; with 2) a MP focus, although it is very playable in SP; with 3) a limited, tactical focus since you can only play the few hours around a convoy attack in real time.
I think it is really a question of what players are looking for in a subsim. Personally I think Wolfpack is currently the best subsim on the market and what hardcore players have been wishing for for decades. It has the most realistic simulation of U-Boat systems ever seen in a simulation (just controlling the dive systems is a game in itself), convoys zig zag, enemy escorts are deadly, nights are black, night surface attacks are very satisfying (and scary).

2) I agree, in addition to the reasons mentioned at this time, the usual game mode in the long run, you start the game and you immediately have the convoy within range. All the starting point is missing, reach the area to be patrolled and search as the SH series. I hope it will be implemented in the future. (I apologize for my english) |

No, I would not say that Subsim has been taken over by Wolfpack.
Given that Silent Hunter 4 and 5 are now unsupported orphan-ware, they still get a lot of activity on these forums. When Ubisoft shut down their servers, they could have implemented direct IP connection so their customers could still play online--without the hassle and expense of a VPN. Civ4 did direct IP. I will avoid buying Ubisoft products. |

I have Wolfpack and play it now and then. Thus far, I'm quite impressed. But I tend to be a bit of a lone wolf. The more single player features added, the more I'll be playing.
There would also probably be more interest if there was more scalable difficulty settings. I don't mind hardcore, I'm one of those types who own Sub Buddy and all that. But there are lot of players who might like the option to tailor their playing experience. But overall, Wolfpack is definitely worth the money. I felt a great feeling of accomplishment when I sunk my first target. Great explosions too, LOL! If you ask my opinion, buy it. You need it in your naval sim library. ![]() |
