Default Countdown to "Victory at Sea"!

Haven't been on the forum for a while, with a distinct lack of good naval wargames out there at present (even completed "Battle Group 2" for the fun of it), and "Naval War: Arctic Circle" was a massive miss (got a refund from Paradox as the devs dumped it unfinished), but this one has me waiting with bated breath.
Anyone else looking forward to this one?

Came here hoping for impressions.... guess I'll have to wait and see if others take the plunge.

Ripper of a game, taken straight from tabletop game "Carriers at War". With three Campaigns that are sandbox spiced up with hit & run missions, escort duty and secret missions (sometimes supporting landing craft in invasions) yet also includes Historical and Custom Scenarios (skirmish).
The three Campaigns are the Atlantic, the Mediterranean and the Pacific it is up to you how to outfit your flotilla - destroyers, a wolfpack of subs or a mixed taskforce.
Graphics are superb for the depth and content of the title, and while you cannot control your subsystems or damage your enemy's, you do have to watch firing arcs, lead with torpedoes, dodge incoming shells and torpedoes and decide when to send your aircraft into battle if equipped with carriers. There is nothing like pulling off a daring hit with 3 Level 2 destroyers against 4 Level 4 German or Vichy French opponents, with your final opponent sometimes choosing to surrender (no reload of a savegame plays the same either).
I have spent several hours since launch today exploring the myriad of of tactics to win a campaign, from attacking patrols, defending convoys or choking off enemy ports (all ports have limited supplies until replenished). A world map, for your campaign, a Tactical Map and a Tactical view with camera follow or free this is the best naval title I've seen in ages and well worth the asking price.
P.S. Support from Devs is swift and very helpful.

Back to it!

Just got this game, so getting used to it. Discovered the tutorials in the help section, and they give you a good idea on how to play. Like the idea of sandbox mode, the idea of using PT Boats or subs sounds fun! It appears that carriers can launch strikes, so we have quite a few different ships to use from Battleships, cruisers, destroyers, corvettes, subs, pt boats, etc.

Seems carriers have 3 different types of aircraft, fighters, dive bombers and fighters. Subs can submerge, launch torps, use its deck gun while on the surface, destroyers can use depth charges and hedgehogs on them, if a ship had torpedoes, they can use them also. This is like a new up to date version of Fighting Steel!

It's fun so far, 20 hours in. It's no simulation, but great fun to gallivant about the seas nevertheless. If anything, I'd compare it to Mount & Blade, as you assemble a rogue fleet with the ships of your choosing and go around carrying out raids and attacks as you please.

The tactical battles are fun as well, manual aiming is necessary to do any damage at all, but once you master that you'll be sailing in circles around the AI most of the time. Personally I just find it deeply satisfying to land a full broadside from a cruiser at max range, those little DDs can be damn hard to lead properly!
