Default disney buys lucasfilm, investing in new star wars movies

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2012/1...15/?comments=1

Quote:
On Tuesday afternoon, the Walt Disney Company announced in a press release shortly before its investor call that it would acquire 100 percent of LucasFilm LTD for $4.05 billion, in cash and stock. In the press release, Disney also said it would invest in a new film, Star Wars Episode 7, which would be released in 2015, "with more feature films expected to continue the Star Wars saga and grow the franchise well into the future."

I was just about to post this.

Anyway, I'm wondering what their plans are for so-called Episode VII and subsequent movies. I'm not completely denying the possibility that they can make something good, certainly better than Episode I anyway, but if they toss out the EU in favour of making something new I shall be...extremely disappointed...

Gosh, when will they finally let Star Wars die? They made 3 good movies 30 years ago, then they made another 3 average movies 10 years ago.. and since then they just keep releasing more games, cartoons, anything you can imagine with the name Star Wars. Now they are releasing even more movies onto the 6 already? They should let it go with some dignity.

3 average movies? Someone is being very generous . 3 Good films then 3 disasters.

If they're doing Episode 7 (8 &9) hopefully, it's the Timothy Zahn; "Heir to the Empire" series.

Or they could remake episodes 1-3.

If they (competently) adapt Zahn's Thrawn trilogy as Episodes VII-IX, that would be perfect, with the only real problem being who will play the original characters. Alas, I think it's rather unlikely that they will actually do it...

Yeah, they're not getting any younger.

Hopefully, they don't "Lucas-it" and have some comic relief character (see Jar-Jar). If they stayed true to the books , and geared it for an adult audience, I have faith that they wouldn't ruin it

I love the new characters and storyline in that Zahn's series.
