Default Same old tired song

OK Guys,
Help me out here! I love the Silent Hunter series, got III, IV and there great! Even with all the bugs. The mods are exceptional. But why should I buy another,,, "German side",,,, sub game, when I already have two,?
Is it because the water is going to be pretty?, or maybe I can actually walk through the engine room, "no other rooms added that I know of" but not interact with any thing? I don't know about this Guys, somebody please sell me on the game! For now my money stays in my pocket. Indy

We cant sell you game we havent played yet.

Yes its another U boat sim, but it looks like there will be some big improvments over the previous games (not just graphics)
But TBH, info on SHV it still in short supply.

As for "why should I buy another one" - the same argument applies to sequels in any game franchise. Its just how these things progress and most people want more of the same. SH3 and 4 are great - but they are far from perfect.

Anyway its not really for anybody to sell it to you. What impresses me, might not impress you - so their is no point going down that road.
Its your call, just wait for the release, read some reviews and THEN make a decision.

If you ever wanted to experience 'Das Boot' with you as the Captain, this is your chance.

The reason you should buy it is because this is the first in the Silent Hunter series to alter the grammar of the way that the player interacts with the sim. That's what's important here. Things like water and cloud textures and all the other modable visual enhancements are just the cherry on the cake.

Why buy it?
Because this release is gonna be BIG. As they've said, it's a revolution on the level that SH3 was when compared to SH2.

Also, buying it, you support the further improvement of a franchise which other corporations would have already given up on. The more SH titles we get, the closer we get to perfection, and that's what in the end we all seek.

What if we wanted to experience a submarine simulation instead of an interactive movie?

Then you'd score 50.000 tons during a 5 year career.

Or are you confident enough to believe you can outscore the true aces?

I'm going to take the Sailor Steve approach here and say I'd be okay with that. It's what really happened.

Ah, but not a lot of people would.

They've got to strike a balance to appeal to enough potential costumers to make it profitable, but that's been said often enough.

Welcome aboard sav112.

If SH5 lives up to the (our) hype, you're in for a treat.

SHV will attempt to offer both.

Bought SHIII and enjoyed it with some of the mods, but I always felt the ships hunting me were cheating, scripted, did daft things like ram each other etc that let the game down massively.

You got killed too quick, I never found myself fighting to stay alive and recover my boat from the sea bed.

The weather system never added up for me.

In all it was a fine game but not epic out of the box then I downloaded the mods and it was a new game with simple additions like better explosions, Convoys, Water, you name it.

I never bought SHIV as it was not really a jump forward in game play, well I hope this one is if they go the extra mile and add all the nice wee touches it make all the difference but I really hope the damage Model is great and not the “Your alive/ your dead model” it be interesting if a Sub damaged the exact same way would be lost or recovered by the crews actions and solutions.

Got a system that will be five years old in November, 6800GT AMD 3400. But buying a new system next April that will be near the top end so I hope they push the eye candy to the max along with realising most have dual cores at the very least these days.

You should get another because the developers of SH5 need a job. Come on, help out your fellow earth person!

When you state
Quote:

....a statement many hard core simmers would disagree with I suspect.

You then go on to state
Quote:
The mods are exceptional.
This suggests to me you are probably an avid sub simmer, someone who is already addicted to the genre like so many others here.

I think a more appropriate question by you might have been "Why shouldn't I buy SH5?"

I'm quietly confident you'll enjoy SH5 as much as I hope to.

SINK EM ALL!!

Its your choice. Its an interesting genre. Having gotten to know the folks involved it becomes a more personal experience. I plan on buying four copies and giving 3 away just as I did with SH4. I also followed up with the folks I gave them too, making sure they patched up and then getting them the UBM update so they could have SH4 1.5. If you really like this genre it is important to support the Devs and Publisher with $$$.

I think that the hours of game play I have gotten from SH4 have been well worth it after the expenditure.
