Even huge, the Surcouf was not a bad sub : it escaped Brest to join the FFL and it was not sunk by an enemy : it was accidently bombed by a us catalina.

Wow. Who even let these ideas get off the drawing boards...

I cannot even imagine the weight of the shells alone.....

I guess with a gun that big you start with that and only use torpedoes to finish off crippled targets???

i think some of you are getting confused, or maybe just me. these are british subs.

i accidently made one off these, it was the afterbirth of the playable bismarck mod. had a massive gun jammed over my deck gun, fired two shells, the reloaded.

But how will the recoil effect the sub? Especially if you fire the gun at a 90 degree angle?

I doubt the weapon could be traversed 90 degrees....more a case of the sub being pointed in the general direction of the target and the weapon being able to reverse 30 degrees or so.

The Surcouf could rotate the guns, but still only a limited axis. The weight of the guns was alot lot less than the M1 single gun. The M1 could only elevate or depress the gun and it could only be reloaded on the surface.
