After reading this thread I decided to get RO yesterday, and I've been having a blast. Literally in many cases, as grenades, tank shells, and everything else explosive lands on my head.

I find some of the maps a little annoying, where you're meant to defend a point, but spawn just as far away as the attackers.

Other than that, I've enjoyed it. I think I've done best when playing as a basic rifleman and sitting back in some cover.

Does anyone know if you can shoot tank drivers through their vision slits?

I like being a sniper best, absolutely bloomin' useless with anything else! Some of the sniper only maps have the same people in, seemingly, all the time and they know every nook and cranny to hide/shoot from.

Still got a guest pass if anyone wants it, time running out!

Right tactical gaming... erm, well this thing, that is STAB, really formed as an off-shoot of SSC. An attempt to branch out from Arma really.

But to be honest, other than Arma neither the people I play with or myself really played much beyond that. We've been messing around a bit though: for example, Dowly, Lion and me played through the Rainbow Six 3 campaign. Good fun. More recently, Dowly and me picked up R6 Vegas.

I know, Vegas, not really R6, right? At least, that's how I thought about it untill I gave it a spin. It's quite challenging, with a pretty darn solid cover system. Set the thing to 'realistic' and you'll quickly learn that getting caught off guard is punished rather severely. So much so in fact that we went from no respawns to 3 lives (minimum setting) to make it a bit less frustrating.

Oh don't give me that look. Yeah, it's rewarding if you can manage it without that 'help', but replaying a level 20 times when you're just trying to get into the game can be a bit much. Rather get some experience first than go off the hardcore end and splatter your brains against a wall over and over.

Anyway, what I'm trying to get at is that we/I really had tactical FPS games in mind. Something like DW is great but getting people together to actually play it... Also, with FPS games there's actually a larger, more varied selection to get into. It's all room clearing and flashbangs at the end of the day, but each game does it a little differently and offers something different in terms of levels and gear.

So, what does it come down to then? We'd really like to get more players involved into games that are currently either already owned or easy to obtain;

Rainbow Six 3 and it's expansions.
Ghost Recon and it's expansions.
Rainbow Six Vegas 1&2
SWAT 3&4

Just suggestions those, if we do manage to get people for something like DW I'm all for it. More suggestions are welcome.

Just wanted to see if we can open up a discussion for it: do we want to pick fixed times, maybe organise things ad hoc, what exactly to play etc.

For the moment Dowly and me have been getting stuck into the first Vegas game. The missions are 4 players max, so consider this an open invitation. In case you have doubts, the sneaky ferret recorded a bit of our escapades.

* and of course he beat me to it.

Ahh, a game I have played before - Rainbow 6 (but not Vegas), but that would have been around 1999

I've just check the prices and it seems very doable by me. Even think I've got Ghost Recon on a disk somewhere...

Dowly, "Ready?"
Arclight - boots door open! "Yes"

Just pick a game and stick with it, can't just buy them all 'just in case'!

Gamersgate has sale on both R6 Vegas and Vegas 2 (6.75€ a piece IIRC).

Just ordered both on disc - should be here next week (by which time you'll all have moved on to something else!)

Goodie.

Here's a Widescreen res patch for R6Vegas, tried and works.

What do you need to do ? Simply select and rename the file you
want to use to R6GameConfig.bin (taken from your downloaded archive) and
copy and paste it in this directory:

"My Documents\Ubisoft\R6Vegas" overwrite (or rename) the existing file if
you get prompted. Make a back-up of the original just in case.

Going back to the other game options... I do have Ghost Recon, it's original not the Advanced Warfare, but it does have the Desert Siege and Island Thunder add ons.

I've got that too. Might be willing to join if people want to play it.
