I would like to ask the veterns which torpedo do they prefer to use?
The G7a T1 which has high speed but leaves a bubbly wake or the slower G7e T2 which is wake less? 1.) Can enemies detect wakeless electric torpedos fired at them? 2.) Which type of torps do you use for the the following scenarios? a. Ambushing a convoy escort at 11 knts , 0.5 to 1KM range? day time b. Ambushing a convoy ship ? at 9 knts , 0.5 to 1KM range? daytime c. Ambushing high value warship @ 20 knts , 0.5 to 1KM range? daytime d. Ambushing high value warship @ 20 knts , 2 to 3 KM range ? daytime |

Hello
I don't think I qualify as a veteran yet, but I find that T1 torpedoes (G7a) does a very good job with targets under 1000m. At that kind of range, it is exceptionally difficult to evade an incoming torpedo, especially a fast one. I'm running Grey Wolves 1.1a, and ships hardly ever evade my torps, unless they somehow spotted me. I always use T1 at low range, say 700m or less, in the night, especially against merchants. Against warships and escorts, I try to position myself as close as possible, (but further away than 300m, min range), and I'd probably use T2s. At long range against warships, during the day, I'd probably use T2s. However, those hits are pretty hard at that kind of range, and I never attempted it. Actually, I have yet to intercept a task force. ![]() Have fun! C-4 |

I use TI at nights and TII at days (generally). If TII (at day) hits target I use TI for second fire.
I never fire torpedoes over 2000m for max probability of hit. Using GW 1.1a I fire torpedo with magnetic detonator at first, after that impact detonator. |

Well, lets name the advantages/disadvantages of each torpedo, people.
Heres what I came up with. T1: Advantages -Long Range -Multiple Speed Settings -Larger Quantity T1: Disadvantages -Leaves A Visible Wake T2: Advantages -Leaves No Visible Wake T2: Disadvantages -Short Range -No Speed Settings -Small Quantity Is there anything else I've missed? I just want to see what each torpedo offers. |

![]() I've acutally had a few cases of a T1 missing the enemy (a destroyer) and have them see it and somtimes they will follow the torp! haha, dumb AI :rotfl:

Actually, I've had that happen too. I'd fire a T1 in broad daylight, but I'd see instantly that it was going to pass in FRONT of the (motionless) ship. All of a sudden the coastal merchant would fire up its props, and catch the T1. Only happened once, but a damn funny site, at that.

![]() 1. Yes, they can detect it, especialy if it's calm or they know your out there. 2. a. Escort sinking T1 high speed setting, range 800-500 meters aiming at the centre point of the ship (greater chance of hitting when he my turn without warning) b. T2 (prefered) for the first salvo of shots, if your hoping to get a second salvo in, If not, T1's are fine, as Merchants seem to be blind to incoming torps. c. High value warships at close range are best taken out by T1's at high speed. It give's them little chance of getting out of the way in time. d. T2 are best, but you have to be in a good firing position, otherwise they may outrun the torpedo's aimed at them. Good Hunting ![]() |

Warships detect the incoming torpedoes not because of the trail of bubbles, but by the noise they make in the water (hydrophone operator can listen to them).
In that regard, shooting a faster T1 that gives little time for reaction is actually better than firing an invisible but yet noisi and slower T2 that is evaded if fired from a not close enough range, no? |

One more disadvantage of steam-powered torps - the trail of bubbles lets the escort know where *your* location is. A competent escort can give you hell.
In heavily escorted convoys, after firing the T1, clear datum - fast! |
