Type XXI Snorkel Radar

Hi All,

Just been buzzing all over the Atlantic in my new type XXI. Man, i love this canoe!!!

When i returned to Bergen late august i checked the tech sheet, and saw a new radar available. A special one, cause it's mounted on top of the snorkel, and it should be a lot of fun...

Anyway, this radar seems kind of buggy, and won't do more than tell you it's destroyed.. Anyone know if it's been fixed yet by some wonderful modder? The old posts in the forum adressed, but i did not find a fix. Hmm, i wonder if i would have got if i knew it didn't work... probably not...

Cheers,
Garrincha

Gotta love the XXI with all it's bugs. It's a shame really it has so many bugs...
Don't really play so much with the subs so I can't really say what happened.But-things like these happen with other subs too on some rare occasions.Have you attempted to start a new patrol with that radar?Usually that solves it for me when I get "weird" equipment destruction at the start of the mission. Also,it might be sabotage from the allies if you're using SH3CMMDR 2.6.

Don't blame SH3Commander for the CTD in that case - the stock game is notorious for crashing when/if you use the crew auto-station buttons (not every time but often enough that you quickly learn just to never use them again) - I've been using SH3Commander for a long time to assign specializations to my crew to help me set the various watches and compartment assignments, and it's never caused any problems for me (but as I said, I have never touched those dang crew auto buttons since the first week I had the game and lost a couple of great patrols to CTDs that way).

Also, though I'm looking forward to seeing some of the sabotage/damage effects (haven't suffered any in the last couple of patrols I've done since I upgraded to the version of Commander that incorporated the sabotage mod), I'm pretty sure that you can tell SH3 Commander to turn off/not use the sabotage thing if you don't want it. Haven't checked for that though so I could be remembering that wrong.

I use the auto crew buttons and I can;t recall a CTD whilst using them. I mostly get CTD's when using high TC after installing some new mod. :hmm:

This is a stock bug. No one has been able to fix it yet. Use the previous radar model.

Why don't you just remove the feature? It's not that hard, especially when you RTFM.

I'm going to change back to the earlier radar model, and will keep dreaming about what could have been...

I'm still using SHcmdr v2.5 which works fine, and doesn't have the sabotage option.

Anyway, i believe that the sabotage option is not that realistic. Sure, stuff breaks down all the time, but how often in WW2 did partizans raid a sub base to sabotage gear. Do to a sub's nature, being sealed and watertight, it's more difficult to get to the equipment. A jeep, tank or airplane is in my opinion much easier to vandalise.

So if the feature is called "stuff DOES break down mod", i'll be happy to use is. But for the moment v2.5 does exaclty what i want it to do, and what it's supposed to do.

The auto-station-buttons cost me a couple CTD's, but i've learned to keep away from them.

Actually ,the only actual "sabotage" is after 44' I think or early 45 .Before that, you only get "wear and tear" or "malfunction" effects.

To reiterate the SH3Cmdr readme file, by default SH3Cmdr R2.6 does NOT in any way model sabotage. Users must follow the instructions in the SH3Cmdr readme file to activate sabotage effects.

By default, SH3Cmdr R2.6 ONLY MODELS MALFUNCTIONS. And again, for people that don't like the feature, IT CAN BE FULLY REMOVED.

Read the SH3Cmdr readme file for more information.

Ohh an before any1 else jumps all over SH3C for the Radar not working on top of the snorkel on the Type XXI, a few FACTS first might be in order:
Fact 1.) Its not even a radar unit thats mounted ontop of the Snorkel on a Type XXI, its the Radar WARNING Receiver.
Fact 2.) The RWR unit in SH3 that SHOULD go ontop of the Type XXI Snorkel is a STOCK SH3 Bug, in that its ALWAYS Destroyed when the upgrade is chosen.
Fact 3.) Also the last Radar Unit upgrade available for the Type XXI is also a STOCK SH3 bug, in that its ALWAYS Destroyed when the upgrade is chosen.
Fact 4.) In no way is any of the above related to SH3C.

I agree with your bugs, and i never blamed SC3C for it... but the Tunis set (FuMB-26, codename MEDDO) works fine on the XXI, it's actually stock on my boat and it's never destroyed on loadup. What i don't know is if it's on the snorkel as it's supposed to be, probably not 'cause i don't get warnings when snorkeling...

FuMB = Funkmess-Beobachtungs-Gerat = radar warning apparatus

Thanks for your elaborate answer,
cheers,
Garrincha
