Default System requirements (real ones) for SH3

Hi all,

Forgive the total n00b question, but I'm keen as mustard to have a go at Silent Hunter III, and I need to know if my work laptop (yes, laptop -- I know it's nuts) will run it.

Fact is I can't justify building a machine for one game (well, I might but she who holds the bank accounts won't!) so I'd have to play it on my work computer. This is the first game I've seen in a l-o-o-n-g time that I'm desperate to play, so I thought who better to ask than the good folks at subsim?

Sure, IGN etc give the system requirements but we all know that what's printed on the box often won't cut it, so I need to know the real deal.

I've posted two links to screenshots of what I think is the relevant info. In your esteemed opinions, will my laptop run this beasty?

Many thanks all -- I hope I'm not contravening any forum rules posting this in here (I looked in the FAQ and it seemed ok).

Cheers, Asem.

Welcome to Subsim!

SH3 will work on your system. I doubt that you get decent framerates with graphics-intensive mods like Grey Wolves or IUb, but you could try them anyway...

Hi Gizzmoe,

Thanks heaps for your reply. I am really happy you reckon it'll run! Now I'll get to ask less stupid questions on this site ;-)

So you think out-of-the-box framerate should be okay-ish?

Thanks again!

Yes. Some of our members play SH3 on worse systems.

Welcome to Subsim Asem,

Herr Admiral ( ) is right. Your system should run out-of-the box SHIII. You might have to tone down the graphics settings to an acceptable level. Yes there are some mods like the above mentioned which add better looking textures and graphic improvements. Unfortunatelly your laptop wont be able to cope with those. And im SURE youll buy a new system after playing this game. Its impossible not to

Cheers!

Awesome, thanks heaps for the help. I really appreciate it. I just bought it online after reading your two messages, so you've gained an acolyte!

Again, many thanks -- can't wait to get it!

Best game in it's category. Incredible gameplay.

Second best for me after Civilization III.
