Default Running out of fuel question

What happens when you run out of fuel in the middle of the ocean?

And don't say, "you stop moving"!!

i was down to 25% once and started to just run the electrical engines during the day and then surfacing and just stood still at night while the batteries recharged and i still ran out of fuel.

Trenken

You just stop dead in your tracks. Only thing you can do, that i know of is to hit ESC and loose the reknown for driving into the port.

Get used to NOT running above standard all the time. It's also good to get some machinest and give them awards so that the diesel engines run more effectively.

Haven't tried it in a long time so I don't know if it is still true, but wasn't there a bug in SHIII that aloud you to recharge your batteries by staying idle in the surface, even if you had no fuel?

That way, you could go with batteries all the way back home (with stops to recharge, of course)

Just get the mods that put milk cows in the map, that'll help

you do more or less the same distance using batteries by day and diesel by night ....the recharging batteries mode make you spend more energy (in term of speed and consumption).

Cruise to and from patrol areas at 1/3 speed, no faster. Best long-range cruising speed should be about 10 knots.

Set manual speed 3 kn on the surface. It will save you a lot.

There is bug that will always let you use batteries... if you sit on surface in idle you will still charge batteries.....I'm sure you can exploit it even when there is no fuel......just surface with air then when charged just go back down and continue to use batteries intil drained....then repeat......

And ask your navigator regularly how long until course end (plot it if you have to), and how far you can travel at current speed. Wake him if you have to and send him to bed after he gives you the info.

Of course making chase at flank or full speed will change this, but I don't like making chase toward targets so far away that it would drastically effect my overall range.

Are you sure about this? Last time on WaW patrol I was very low on fuel, so I had to travel submerged and recharge on surface (immobile, of course). After 2000 km fuel reserve felt from 20 to about 17%. Using RuB 1.45 and SH3 commander 2.4 here. Maybe this depends on reality level settings? :hmm:

I'm not sure...I have never ran out of fuel...I'm a pretty responsible boat captain...but, i do know you can charge your batteries when stopped/in idle even though the engines don't sound like they are running. I was always told this was a "feature". This is in all versions. There is no realism setting for this. I think its hard coded so its not disabled in a mod either I use RUB 1.45 as well and it still charges as long as you are on the surface. It might not charge as fast as running 1/3, ahead full, etc but, it still charges over time. Just use time acceleration to see.
