In an early-war FOTRSU campaign that has altered my assigned patrol to now go along the coastlines of Santa Isabel, Choiseul, and Bougainville to watch for reinforcements coming in. Can I just go along the edge of deep water, or is there a closer proximity to the shore expected?

There will sometimes be mention of "establish patrol area 50nm across" or "do not enter 100 fathom line", etc. which generally means to stay in the deeper water. You wouldn't want to have to burn all your order, papers and charts if you get sunk in the shallows...
