Default Time for a Life change

I've spent more years then I care to count travelling the U.S.A. as a Flooring Professional.
This weekend, I decided after months of hard thought, it was time to step away.
So I'm filing for Social Security and retiring. Well, semi-retiring. I'll be seeking a part time job and hope to find one that I can share what I know about my Profession.
I'll also get to stay at home. I've spent many years away from my Wife and home. I don't want to be away from home and Nancy any longer.

So. A new phase in my Life begins. I can't explain the weight that seems to have been lifted off of me. And the excitement of doing something different seems to have given me a new energy.

Hope you enjoy this new life Jeff. Retirement is great although I do help out others with my construction skills. For free of course.

All the best.

Free sounds good to me Marcel. You're hired.I always say, if it's free, it's for me. I have some great construction projects here for you.

All the best as you retire, Jeff. You will have more time with Nancy and more time here to Subsim to keep Vinnie in Check. Maybe you can pick up another motorcycle and you and Nancy can ride together again and make it to some events.

Stay safe and Congratulations.

Good luck with that Jeff and I hope the plans include retirement for Nancy Lady too (should that be her wish of course).

On a personal note and having discussed it with Neal and Steve over the years, my retirement at 52 years of age was bordering close to disaster due to an
absence of not having taken boredom onboard as a possible consequence.

Circumstances have much improved over the years so now I'm awaiting my government state pension a year come July.

Only one tip/piece of advice from me....GET A HOBBY OR SOMETHING TO WILE AWAY YOUR TIME.

Trust me, money in whatever quantity or value is not the be all and end all I thought it was going to be.

I may just get into doing flooring installations for Lowe's as a Subcontractor.
That would allow me to use my skills, only accept the jobs I want, and stay home!
Also looking into being a Consultant for flooring. I was involved in Multi-Million dollar installs over that last 5 years or so.

On the hobby side? Well I have MANY unfinished projects for the SH series!
And My Air Guns need work!

Our home was paid off several years back and I did buy all new appliances in the last couple years so we owe no one a single penny!

Wise move mate. First thing I did in 2010 was pay of the house mortgage.

The kids are overjoyed they'll be able to redeem 100% of its value when we pop our clogs

Word is spreading that I left my position. Already getting offers from some of the Companies that I did do work for. So it's going to get exciting as the new week rolls in!

I'm in a similar position. I owe nothing but taxes and own my house but I'm still on the fence about when. Only three months until full retirement age....

I 'retired' last year and since then I've had hardly any time to do a bloody thing for myself

I just turned 62 a few months ago. The original plan was to work at least another 4 years, maybe 8, before pulling the plug. Then the plan was to sell our paid off house down here to finance new one built on my land up in Maine. I'm hoping that building a new retirement cottage will cost about half what I can get for our house.

But now my new gig as an Estimator means I can work from home and i'm thinking of ways to make the move happen sooner rather than later and work my remaining years up there.

I hope it works out the way you want it too. A friend of mine is in a similar position. He will be 58 and has been doing the tile and ceramic work in new home constructions and also renovations. He told me recently he is going to slow down. I would think that kind of work is rough on the knees, back and other joints in the body.

Wishing you luck Jeff, it seems you made the right decisison

And i did not know you were into flooring, did a lot of this stuff myself, from restoring older houses to new projects, from wood to tiles.
