Started playing GWX Gold with my starter boat August 1939. As the war with Britain hasn't started yet do I have to sail about the British coast and not sink anything for ages? How do I get renown at this early stage?

Hello, I can not recall accurately since been ages I started campaigns before the war.
When choosing that option, you have to do some tests to the boat, sink a few ships, then hit escape to exit patrol. In the next one, you apply for transfer to "front" flotilla and the orders is to sail to the designated patrol are. Then, according to the date, is waiting 2 or 3 days and War is declared! |

Putter about the Baltic or North Sea for a few days, go back to port and dock. By the time the you refit and start your second mission roughly 28 days will have elapsed and the war will have started (or better, about to start).
As a bonus you can add a qualification to one of your officers or chiefs (torpedoman, machinist, radio, repair etc) while you are in dock. David I |
