Default Alternate base available in 1st Flotilla?

I'm in mid-1940's campaign and on the way back to base I get a new radio message that says that a new base is available out of one of the French ports on the Atlantic side (Lorient maybe?). So I think "Cool, I'll switch to that base when I get back to dock at Wilhelmshaven."

When I get back, I can't figure out how to switch to that base? I assumed that it meant I had access to it via the flotilla that I'm already in, or does it want me to switch to 7th Flotilla (I can't confirm by looking in the menus how to access that port)?

On that note, I'm also running GWX & SH3 Commander, does this change which ports are available by date and maybe that message shouldn't be appearing?

i think that message is just saying that u can use that base for refueling, u cant make that base your home base, unless u transfer to another flotilla. Also remember the 1st flotilla does get transferred to a French base, just watch for a radio message while your at sea.

Thanks. Does anyone know of a listing somewhere that shows which bases can be transferred to by date & Flotilla (corresponding with GWX, SH3 Commander, etc.)?

In sh3 commander when u select new career, by the box that shows the flotilla there should be a box that has,"...", in it. If u click on that you will get a summary and the bases where the flotilla was based that's showing in the drop down box.

Thanks, avers! Looks like I have two months to go before I can transfer bases...

Finally switched over to the Brest base, but am still in a Type IIA sub with no option to get a Type VII? Is that common for GWX w/SH3 Commander using historically accurate sub availability, as late as August 1940? When I look at the chart it shows VII's being available much earlier...

When ur in base, click on the right desk and the first tab should be u boats and u can buy your upgrade u boat. I know it's unrealistic, but that's just how the game is made.

That's just it, when I'm on that screen it shows the Type IIA I've been in and has never added the VII. I tried clicking the little up and down arrows, because I figured the menu would scroll, but it's not giving me any other options. I've bought other items in that list (new diesel engine, flak gun, etc)...

Wonder if my game is glitched somehow, because my previous career run let me buy a VII and I thought it was by early 1940. Could be wrong on that point though...

Another thing that's weird is that it finally transferred me to the Atlantic at Brest, France, but my next mission is back in the North Sea (AN square). Weird.

Switch to a different flotilla. There you will find different boats available.

Somebody made some real work of that GWX 3 Manual. It probably isn't in there though.

Zos, I'll give it a shot. I think I still have 7th Flotilla as an option to transfer to. Had avoided doing that because I didn't want to be stationed out of Kiel but they have probably also switched to an Atlantic base by now.

Pisces, I didn't even think to look in the manual, but should have. I put a copy of it on my desktop so I'd remember it's there, and I sometimes still don't lol.

You're welcome.
It is a magnificent manual.
If I ever need to reference something quickly and not sure where to find it, I use the Find (Ctrl+F) function.
Saves a bit of time, but it is excellent bed-time reading, along with a glass of single malt.

I'll get out the bottle of 18 year Laphroaig next time I open the manual!
