Welcome,

Are you new to subsims or just sh5?

A good place to start is with full realism minus manual targeting and no contacts. You'll still get into the mindset of managing battery charge and co2 levels without getting wrapped up in the finnesse of conducting an attack.

After that I recommend turning on manual targeting but leaving Map contacts on until you've got your head around running an attack plot and some of the geometry behind it.
