Default The world of comedy has lost one of its greatest stars

Such a gifted talent he was. Not many could make me burst in laughter so easily - and did so that often.

Tell that to the people who were directly affected by his politics and policies, for better or for worse. It's always nice reducing leaders to a joke when they don't affect you, even when what they do has deadly serious effects on millions of people. Very funny.

Must be nice living in a box of contempt and lack of empathy for the rest of the world.

Isn't it funny how death turns stupid people into intellectual beasts and villains into saints? Chavez was so often ridiculed in this forum over the past years, and mocked and laughed about. Now he died: and all forgiven, all forgotten.

Sorry, not with me. Never have bought into this kind of split-tongued double talk. Never will.

Reminds me of the death of Gaddafi. When the news made the round in Germany, Merkel said that she felt happy that he was gone and could do no more bad things. After she said that, almost a sh!tstorm came down on her, and for days the intellectual debate in Germany, if one may call it intellectual at all, focused on nothing else than the question whether one may feel "happy" when a bad mass murderer died, and may express relief over the fact that he cannot do any more bad stuff. About the evilness of Gaddafi - for some reason in that discussion it played no role.

The only thing that is to be regretted is that Chavez did not die earlier. But then we would have missed many opportunities when he made a fool out of himself, and we would have had less opportunities to laugh about this idiot.

Rot in hell, presidente.

Na und? Phrases like that are common idioms without theological relevance. I also use "oh mein Gott" oder "zum Teufel" occasionally.

I'd think someone who demands religion be kept out of his face would eschew invoking deities lest he be seen as a hypocrite.

I'm with Skybird on this one, another tyrant the world can live with out.
Biblically hell was simply the grave, so may he rot in hell....

It's just language, August. I also use the German equivalent to "thank god" when something took a good turn. I don't say that because I believe in a God but simply because I was taught as a small child that this is the right phrase to express my feelings in that situation.

Not only did you manage to miss the point of CCIP's post, but you also managed to jump into far reaching conclusions on what the Subsim forum thinks about this event based on that missing of the said point.

Wow, who saw that coming, eh?

Chavez has been mocked and ridiculed repeatedly in this forum, and nobody gave a damn for real people being affected by his deeds in reality. Now he died, and CCIP implies that one should not ridicule him anymore because it were real people being affected by his deeds in reality.

I think I got that point very well. And I refuse to sign in to it.

So, who is the one missing points here: me - or maybe yourself?

"My private socialist utopia of Finland". If that is to be taken seriously, you probably lost an idol yesterday, that would explain your anger. But that's yours. Not mine.

You don't go around demanding that all sign or even mention of religion should be hidden from public view either, and that's the difference.
