Default would a "barometer" mod be possible?

I was wondering if a crude barometer could be added to the game.

The campaign*.mis files have a value WeatherRndInterval which can be between 2 to 96 and which is said to control the weather changes. If this is true there must be a value that counts how close the next weather change is.

Would it be possible to get the current value during the game and connect the value to a new gauge, acting as a crude barometer?

If it was possible, would the mod be legal - I guess this kind of mod would need to hack the game pretty thoroughly?

nice thought,

it would be usefull if it can also make short hour forecasts, maybe asking to navigation officer (as you ask for weather report)? But i'm afraid the values change in random way so probably there is no "pre-computation" by SH engine..
