Default HMS Nelson ..... ?

05:05, October 26th 1941. I take a look up to the Gibraltar harbor for targets opportunity as I sneak through. Sure enough I spot HMS Nelson docked in the distance.. I slipped up to the edge of the shallow area and shot three eels at extreme range. All hit. Got the hell out, proceeded to my patrol area, and eventually returned to base. 17:50, November 17th 1941. Crossing to the Med again, I decide to go see if I can find some more biggies in Gibraltar. I see a light cruiser but as I look around more I realize that Nelson is still there, parked in the exact same spot I killed her in a month ago. There's another ship right beside her so I shoot two fish at the battleship and two at the small depot boat next to it, and get the two kills. But what the hell happened? There is no way that in less than a month they managed to raise a sunken battleship and repair the three gaping holes it had in it. Is it respawned by the game because it has some role to play later in the war?

It is respawned by the game because the dynamic campaign doesn't take into account sunken ships at all, you could a ship 15 times in a campaign and it will still come back if it's scripted in somewhere

I think

Same thing happened to me

Hi
SH3 is a wondeful game , you can go how many times you feel for to sink
" HMS Nelson " in Gibraltar harbour . You see , if you end your patrol , and start a new patrol , " HMS Nelson " would be in the harbour again , and again and again and again
But be careful , the british in the harbour learning in the war
Don't ever try to go in to the Gibraltar harbour from november 1942 to 1945
YOU WILL NEVER COME OUT ALIVE

I've had that same question too, until I sank the Hood twice

No way around it I'm afraid.....I've attacked an individual ship in a convoy before, sank it then lost contact with the convoy, saved game then restarted and sped on the surface ahead of the predicted path only to find the same bugga there again

Last night I was coming back from the coast of Africa after a really successful patrol, and I thought I'd head up the Strait of Gibraltar to see if I could use my last couple of torpedoes up. I managed to sneak right into the bay, 1.5km off the port of Gibraltar itself, and what was there? HMS Nelson. I gave her my last 2 eels with magnetic pistols at about 1km, both detonated. All I succeeded in doing was making the Royal Navy really angry. I managed to sneak away, and apart from slamming into in a sub net, I got home without much drama.

I'm going back there as soon as I can, to finish the job. I spotted 2 Southampton and a London Class too. I almost feel like I'm cheating though, as they're sitting ducks.

Nothing wrong with this resurrection - it's as good as a new thread. No outdated information here...

The Lange brothers are probably caught in a temporal horizon and try to communicate this way.

I never have a problem with thread resurrection per se. It's when the post answers one made three years ago as if it was made three minutes ago, with no warning. It's jarring, to say the least.

Also, the OP hasn't been on these forums in more than a year.

so a discussion about the respawning, is it possible to make a mod to fix the spawning issue. Also does anyone have a list of where battle ships are docked at and at what times? Also (ive said also a lot) is there a mod or is it possible to make a mod to add battle ships to scapa flow at the appropriate times and places. Its frustrating following the exact path Prein took, and finding nothing.

Not a problem. I'm just having fun. I have a bad habit of being quick to judge, quick to condemn and then quick to kick myself for being a jerk. You may have annoyed me, but you didn't do anything wrong.

The way the game spawns ships makes that pretty much impossible, though h.sie's work may change that.

It is entirely possible to script ships to be at a certain place at a certain time. This is why Tirpitz appears at Kiel in 1939 without her turrrets, and later in other places fully rigged for battle. On the other hand if you script the exact British ships into every exact place you remove any element of surprise, and the game becomes less realistic, not more. Royal Oak at Scapa Flow is probably a good exception, but only because the raid was planned by Doenitz himself using good aerial photograph. After that no British base should ever be possible to penetrate, as they took very good security measures from then on.

You will find HMS Royal Oak at Scapa Flow from 4-10-39 until 14-10-39
