Swedish divers have uncovered what they believe to be the legendary Swedish warship Mars, lost in a sea battle with the Danish-Lübeckian navy in 1564, near the coast of the Baltic island of Öland.
“The ship is lying port-side up and the site is virtually littered with cannons," said diver Richard Lundstedt to The Local. Mars was one of the largest ships of its time with 107 guns and a crew of 800 men, both out-sizing and outgunning the famous warship Vasa, which has been on show in Stockholm since it was lifted from city's harbour in the 1960s. That craft is so intact, due to the salt water density, which is unique in the Baltic Sea, A side note, Therefore, it is difficult to find foreign submarines, precisely because of the different layers of salt in the water,

I remember as a kid watching/listening to Gene Hart and Bobby Taylor doing the play-by-play and color commentary for Flyers broadcasts, and hearing Gene refer to a bench-clearing brawl as a "brouhaha." As I got old enough to read, I remember how happy I was to find out that it's an actual word.
Kerfuffle, now... That would once have been a bit of a stretch, but for "woot" earning official recognition. ![]()

Indeed, back on topic. It must have been really, really exciting to find the wreck! Those guys are probably still feeling elated.
The only thing that irks me about these types of finds is that I'll never see them in situ, which seems like it'd be really amazing. I know, for instance, that CGC Duane is now an artificial reef near Florida, and I've seen dive video of her, but I know I'll never get to walk those decks or explore those passages, and that kinda sucks.
