I wanted to take a picture of my map which showed a large convoy being shaddowed by a VIIC and couldn't get a picture of it...

Are you using the Res Fix? If so, it changes the screenshot function to the PrintScreen key.

Be aware though that some users experience game freezes or CTDs when taking screenshots with the Res Fix enabled. If you are using it you might want to load up a single mission or test career and try the PrintScreen key there before doing so on a "real" career patrol.

IIRC the readme for the Res Fix says it's just the PrintScreen key. That's what I used with no issues until I switched to Win7, now that key still works for screencaps *but* if I get greedy for too many in sequence or the system resources are otherwise compromised (lots of ships in view, fires and explosions, etc.) everything will freeze up on me.

Grab a copy of a programme called 'fraps' and you should have no problems.

The Res Fix is a set of files you can download (as a zipped file) and extract and then copy into your game installation, so it's unlikely that you are using it and don't know it.

I only have the problem described when trying to take screenshots with the Res Fix installed. If you are having it in Win7, even without the Res Fix, you can try some tips found here to see if that helps:
