Default Council pays for dating for those in its care

This just beggers belief! It thought the recent expenses scandal was bad, but this is just ridiculous.

Trafford Council said the personal budgets were usually used to pay for care assistants or to buy equipment.
Dating website subscriptions would also be an acceptable expense, it said.

As an Englishman, there's a lot I don't understand about the council system over here... hehehe

What can you say? Everyone is on the take - national or local government, take your pick.

It's kind of like your County/Burrough system in the US, as the US and AU system was based on the UK system. Basically you have a Mayor and councillors responsible for local ordnances and services like garbage disposal, parking, building and development approvals etc.

IIRC the US system also adds local policing into the mix as well.

I don't think anyone over here really understands what our local councils actually do

Including the people on the councils.

Or should I say especially the people on the councils?

It's the same everywhere. The only question is: Does government attract stupidity, or does government breed stupidity?

Heh... both, and when it comes to the military the government actually manufactures stupidity.

This isn't just a British thing, though. Entitlement Socialism in America doesn't lag far behind in some cases: http://www.dispatch.com/live/content...a.html?sid=101

In the UK, local taxes help pay for Police, Fire Brigade and Civil Defence.

Can I have a lap dancer with that laptop I've just ordered?

You might want to put Civil Defence on speed-dial, in the event Mrs. J. is home when your delivery arrives.

But unless you spend several million *your money here* on government research, how can you know for sure?
