Default Is there no way of removing the Slideout Compass???

Dear Karleuns,

I have been trying to find out how to remove the slideout compass in here and have drawn a blank - yes I have carried out searches for a week now. I have even posted a question about it here nearly a week ago and not one single person has replied - so am I right in assuming then, that there is no way of removing the slideout compass?

Thanks in advance.

Regards

I had not seen your question before...

Which mod are you interested in removing it from?

I will provide you instructions for it. Do you want to remove it altogether, or simply make it appear/dissapear with a click of a button? (Like my GUI does)

Sorry I missed your original post. Here is a quote from a very old post answering this exact question.

second, edit the menu_1024_768.ini and find the string [G3F I300] in there.
You've got to delete the following eight blocks (the ones 'g3f i300' to 'g3f i307'). (That's no problem because no blocks are following behind them in this section).

Then third, go to the ...\data\Menu\cfg\Dials.cfg to it's very end and delete the the block there (which begins with [Dial 52]). You should also go to the beginning of the dials.cfg and decrease the DialsNo setting by one.
Let us know whether it worked out, but there shouldn't be any problems.
If you run into any problems just ask. I've used this many times, because I use another mod that adds it back in and I ended up with two!

Default Is there no way of removing the Slideout Compass???

Dear Hitman and Sailor Steve,

Thanks very much for your responses.

Hitman, I am trying to remove it from my SHIII with GWX3. So any help would be great.

Sailor Steve, I had already found the thread you kindly provided and tried this but I ended up with crashes on start up (I wonder what I may have done wrong). The only thing I can think of is that I could not go directly into my C:/ and make changes in my cfg files (I was having to 'save as' and then copy and paste back into my C. I now have a compass that slides out but is non functional.

Any advice greatly appreciated Karleuns.

I made a copy of the relevant files and worked with them on the desktop. Then relabeled the added "orig" to the name of the originals and installed the modded ones. That way if it doesn't work you can just pull them out and relabel the originals. As I say, I've done it many times and have no problems.

Did you remember to renumber the 'Dials.cfg' file?

Default Is there no way of removing the Slideout Compass???

Hi Sailor Steve,

Thanks for your patience and understanding on this.

I have had a look in my 1024_768 and have discovered that the G3F 1300 block runs all the way up to 1336 and doesn't end at 1307 - could that be what the problem is? If I just delete 1300 - 1307, would the remaining 1308 - 1336 cause the crash?

In previous attempts, I had removed the last block in the Dials_cfg and renumbered the figure at the top to one less (53 to 52 I think it was).

Advice greatly appreciated.

Yes, the remaining numbers would cause the crash. They need to be renumbered, so all are in the proper sequence.

With that few numbers you can do it by hand, or download this handy little tool from h.sie:

Dear Sailor Steve,

Thanks very much, it must have been the numbers not running sequentially. I removed the blocks numbered 'g3f i300' to 'g3f i307'. I then renumbered the blocks 'g3f i308' to 'g3f i336' to 'g3f i300' to 'g3f i328 (I think that last number is correct)'. I also made the change to the Dials file and gave the whole cabush a go.

Yayyyy, it works a treat.

Thanks very much for your kind patience and understanding on this Steve - I am indebted to you and I sincerely hope others may benefit from this thread.

Alles gute mein freund und gute jagd.

Awesome! Glad it worked!

A note: There is no 'r' in 'kaleun'.

hi K Gunz,

you could ,also, just edit the entry

[G3F I301]
Name=Group feedback
Type=1026;Menu group
ItemID=0x3F010020; 0x3F010000
ParentID=0x3F000000
Pos=678,476,344,344
Color=0xFFFFFFFF
HorizSlide=1344;344

with ''red'' the change and don't touch anything else.

that way, you can have it 'back' in case that you change your mind at future by making the last line as it was before ( HorizSlide=344)

bye

Dear Makman,

Thanks very much for the tip. I have now completely demolished the compass but I hope that others may find this tip useful.

Dear Codmander,

Thanks also for your advice. You are obviously a Kaleun of many words. I don't know what your advice would do to the compass but I hope that if anyone gives it a try, they could let us know here so that it may help others.
