Default SH5 & me

Well I did my share of ranting when the drm was announced,no way was I touching it etc etc...guess what I got for my birthday
Soooo slapping the disc in the drive and wiping the egg off my face, downloaded a shi...shedload of mods and we're off.
The first thing that got me was the UI,it looks like it was designed for a console controller, but with DW's mod installed it had a more familiar look to it so on we go.
The subpen start is certainly different, pity there are no other boats floating around the other pens, would've been a nice touch. The old office start was fine by me though, could organize everything right there but that's progress.
The missions seem a bit sorta wow-like,go here and kill so many of them, come back hand in the quest.Still not sure on that as I liked the old 'here's your patrol grid, stay there for 24hrs,after that do what you like, now get going' approach.
Time will tell I suppose but I would like to see a mod put that in,something like 'here's your co-ordinates,patrol an area 100km around that' kind of thing. It just feels a bit restrictive in that kind of approach where you have a set tonnage to sink (yea I haven't got far) probably have to play a lot more of it to see how the campaign pans out and how I feel about the way they've implimented it
Quick question:can you just go out and do your own thing,as in go where you want and to hell with the missions etc ?
Once out of the pen however the beauty of the game assaults the peepers, the graphics really do shine.Man they could've just re-released SH3 with these graphics and I would've bought it.
The whole rpg thing just doesn't do it for me at all, could've easily lived without that, likewise the whole sub interior thing.Yea,out of curiosity I did go and watch these 2 guys manhandling a torpedo into the tube, will I do it again...No.
I think tend to think of them as fluff and not necessary however I'm sure many more would disagree with me and hail them as a great step forward and that's ok too,to each his own
Had some wierd behavior with planes attacking, where they strafe the spot where you dived repeatedly, even if you raise the 'scope and watch them they stick resolutely to that same spot even though at periscope depth the sub is plainly visible.Hopefully this will be fixed.
Mmmmm this is starting to look really depressing...but the fact is despite all this I quite enjoy the game.It has to be stated and cannot be over-emphasized that this is down to the work of the fantastic modders we have here and I for one would like to express my sincere gratitude for the work they do:

Hopefully Ubi for their part will continue support and release more fixes as yea I think the core elements are there for a great sim to emerge,we can but hope,it would be a shame for them to abandon it so soon.
Now if I can just find a way of disabling that damn gamesave sync thing

Pretty much sums up my feelings on the game (as it is now) Nice post

P.S. Click on the cog icon on the right hand side of the game launcher - switch off online saves. It will still sinc , but it shouldn't take as long

I turned off my online saves because I read somewhere it can cause CTD's. Ive only had 1 since turning them off

PS- Welcome to the world of SH5 m8 . I am currently hopping between SH4 and SH5 as SH5 is a little laggy for me on my current system (E6600, 4gig mem, 2* 8800 GTS on Win7).

In addition to clicking the cog in the launcher window I also had to delete ...\Program Files\Ubisoft Launcher\storage -folder before it stopped synchronizing save games. It used to take one minute or more which was unbearable. I mean what's the point of purchasing SSD-drives and then wait for... I don't even know what I was waiting for.
