Default Homeless Again...

Well, it happened. I didn't have any steady income for far too long, so my friend and I got evicted from the place we were at.

The good news is I started a cool job two months ago, working at one of the best used and rare bookstores anywhere - Sam Weller's in downtown Salt Lake City. I worked there part time for a few weeks, and then they needed me full time. So now I sell books and talk about books and get discounts on books.

The bad news is that it was too little too late. We were far enough behind in the rent that they didn't care that we could now afford to pay - they just wanted us gone. The other bad news is that while I love the job, it's only minimum wage, so saving up money takes a lot longer.

The good news is that this time around we can afford to make plans. We're staying in a cheap motel until we can get into the homeless shelter, and once there I'll be able to save up enough money to get a car and a place.

And the band is still playing, so I'm not complaining at all.

It really makes me happy that you have a positive outlook and are striving to overcome your difficultys.

You keep that attitude up and you will be just fine

Damn Steve, life just keeps trying to sucker punch you doesn't it? Good to see you're rolling with them though. Keep your chin up, and if we can help you, just ask.

I'm sorry Steve. Some guys get all the breaks, or so they say. Personally, I'd like to meet those guys. Then take their stuff.

You keep a remarkably even keel through the whole thing, and I find that to be the trait that I most admire in you.

I have to hand it to you Steve, your positive outlook is much to be admired - damn, I get almost suicidal when we have to leave a note on the door explaining why we can't pay the rent in full that month! Keep that attitude mate - I hope it all works out for you soon, I'm sure it will.

@Reece My extreme sympathies to you and your family. Mother's are always the tops and to lose one's own is a hell of a blow.

Part of not having an official residence is the problem of recieving mail. So I go to the post office to rent a PO box, and find out they have a new policy, and a new application to fill out.

Two forms of ID are required (nothing new there).

1) Picture ID. Driver's license. Check.

2) Passport, Visa or Green Card. I'm a US citizen, so I don't have any of those.

3) Proof of homeowner's insurance. Nope, don't own a home, or I wouldn't be homeless.

4) Proof of car insurance. Nope, don't own a car.

That's about it. Curiously, they won't take a Social Security card as a form of ID, and I don't have a copy of my birth certificate.
Is it me or does this sound like discrimination? It seems they want to know where you live and if you cant prove it then your SOL. Isn't the whole reason of getting a PO box is because you need a common place for mail to arrive? That sucks...

I'm sorry to hear that too. My dad is 81 and doing okay so far. I've never actually lost someone that close, but I know the time isn't far off. I'm glad your mom's suffering is over, but I know it's still hard.

Me? My problems aren't really so bad. I just like to talk about myself.
