Default [REQ] "Wasserbomben!"

Hi all!

I recently got depth charged so my teeth were rattling, but one thing I missed were the sound guy exclaiming "wasserbomben" when DD's dropped one on me. This was in SH3, so I was wondering if it was possible to make him do it again?

I know the sound file probably isn't there, but at least a text warning would be nice so I know exactly when to take evasive manoeuvres.

The soundfiles are definetly in there. I have only seen the german version, but it has over 1100 soundfiles for every possible and impossible situation for every station (normal, tension, whisper) - and about 1000 of them are NOT used.
A giant waste of resources by Ubisoft..

The soundfile you seek is MC_RR_HIDRO_63.ogg in data\Sound\Speech\SoundMan\Whisper

MC_RR_HIDRO_62.ogg and MC_RR_HIDRO_64.ogg are also about DCs.

Yeah, I was just looking at all the sounds that are not used.
It makes me think that the crew originaly played a bigger part in the game, with voices and sutch, then they all got the cut. But the sound files are still there?
Thank God though because we can use them later, for future mods, I hope.

Interesting! Well, hope this thread can make some modders direct their attention to it.

Check through the files
Most of SH3 and 4 is still in there - sounds\textures\cfgs - none used
Either too lazy to remove it as rushed or left behind on purpose for ppl to add stuff in - which could be done with ripping the files needed from 3 or 4 anyway
No wonder the data folder is over 6gb with all that bloatware left from previous games

I tried to handle more sounds. I was looking for the File, where the sounds are addressed. But I found nothing. In the File Message*.cfg there are a little bit.
But no breakthrough.

Example what i tried: The Event 'Airplane attack' generate a message "we are under attack" in the text box. But no sound was playing. ok, the code routine must be there but without sound addressed. I was searching for the .ai .py or another file where the message ist generate,i found nothing. In my opinion, these events are handled in the hardcode and we can do nothing without the sourcecode.

Otherwise the roleplayingpart with the crew dialogs is good modable but with my knowledge for now the events like 'Depth charges' or 'Destroyer is engaging' are not modable. Its a pitty. There are so much sounds inside, with it ,the game were on a much higher atmosphere level.

yeah, SH5 is the worst offender with this. Dig around enough and you'll find just about everything from the previous two games. I used to think SH4 was bad.

Ok.... so....Wasserbomben! Or as monolinguistic mental midgets like myself call it... "Depth charges in the water!" The lack of this warning, i believe is a legacy issue from SH4. Without going into great detail, the summation is that this was never fixed. So a work around was found by NVDrifter called the "depth charge splash warning".

How this worked was the sound of the depth charge hitting the water was made audible to the player by changing various sound properties in the particles.dsd file for this sound event. The result was you could hear the depth charges hitting the water around you, much like you can hear a DD pass overhead. Not quite as immersive as hearing the soundman, but it works pretty well.

So assuming SH5 uses the particles.dat file, you might be able to recreate this mod. I tried earlier, but either I didn't adjust it right, used the wrong sound event, or SH5 doesn't use the file like the previous two games. I honestly don't know.

Ah. I thought I hadn't heard it since SH3. Well, I hope somebody can do something about it. I'm afraid it's probably a bit over my head.

That would really be a drag if all those unused sounds can't be fixed by modders because of hardcoding. Especially after all the hype of being more modder-friendly than ever. Slap in the nuts, that. I'll be crossing my fingers for a solution.
