Default Back to SH3 but...

Hi, I'm thinking of getting a new PC soon with Win7 OEM and I was wondering if Starforce is going to snafu my PC or not. I wasn't here when SH3 was first released with the Starforce and all, so I don't know exactly what kind of damage it does. Now, it didn't have any noticeable problems on my previous PC, but that was some time ago and I'm not willing to risk a new computer to test it out.

So any ideas on how safe it is?

As long as your spending money on a new Puter.

Spend $10.00 for the Encore SH2\SH3 DVD that is patched and DOESN'T have any STARFORCE.

Simple and problem solved.

ps. You can get it here at SubSim \ Amazon.com

Firewall is on target. D2D also sells III patched no fartforce for 9 clams.
I'm presuming you already have starforced SH3 though.

Yeah... I already have the starforce version bought. I sort of don't want to buy another copy which I may or may not play that often. But thanks for the suggestion guys.

What does starforce actually do to your PC anyway?

To mine? Nothing. No problems, ever.

To some others? It decides that the DVD drive is cheating, and makes it not work. Or so I've heard.

If you're spending the money for a new PC, get the new version of SH3 as well. That way you'll know you're safe.

Igf by some misfortune you do end up with a copy containing Starforce, here is the removal tool:

I just bought a new computer, I'm waiting for it to arrive. Since my old machine was over 5 years old, I can't wait to see how the new one runs SH3!

My old machine was an AMD 64+ 3200, with an ATI 1950 AGP graphics card.

New machine is Asus P6T SE, Intel Core i7-930, 6GB RAM, Nvdia GeForce 9500 GT with 1GB.

The Windows 7 thread is very confusing. I suspect it is the Starforce causing problems with Windows 7. Since I own a very old copy of SH3, I'm thinking I will have the problem. I will try it and let everyone know. I may just buy the new version (it's like $10) and be done with it if Starforce is what is causing the problem.

I"m getting a new computer (with win 7) hopefully next month so I will also buy the patched DVD that doesn't have Starforce.

I have the old SH3 DVD, of course, but I'm willing to spend ten bucks to leave that behind.

New machine? 7 or Vista?
See Firewall's Words Of Wisdom.
Not only is it patched, and SF free, It's an improved version.
Encore fixed a-lot of "stuff".

I cant prove it but my DVD burner could not make copies anymore and then started a bunch of "Blue Screen" errors when not even gaming. I bought a SF free copy as soon as it came out and I stay away from anything with SF. As soon as I heard about SH5, I made the same decision. I dont even trust the SF removal program. I have been trouble free every since, but it cost me a new computer (I think)

I have both versions at the suggestion from a friend here and I am so glad.
When my old machine blew up last month and I got the new one-the new version of SH 3 went in smooth as silk.
As stated if you are buying a new computer an extra 9\10 bucks for the new SH 3 is worth it.

couldn't agree more!!
yesterday a brand-new "Steel-Edition" was mailed to me including SH3 and SH4 without any protections and/or hazzles for a bargain at €12 (equal to $15).
they will stay unpacked until necessarily.

I know the answer is most definitely a YES, but I just want to make sure one last time as I am buying an extra copy (I don't play a lot of games and I'm a cheap guy, so...): http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...#ht_5341wt_939

This Encore version doesn't have Starforce right? Right?!
