woe... WOE is me..gnashes teeth

hello Peeps

Yesterday I downloaded GWX3 and bins and GWX3 cnfg for SH3 Commanders, then put a fresh original install of SH3 on, patched it, tested it - fine.
Put on all the gfx3 modules I have listed here, and then started the game. Not fine.

Most of the graphics were missing and the game was therefore unplayable. I had a headless crewman in the control room surrounded by dials that were floating in air, and topside just blocks of blue and some thin black shapes of railings or ironwork.

Today I have gone through the whole thing again ( after deleting every trace of and reference to SH3 of course) and am now at the stage where I should be putting on the GWX3 files....

Should I be putting the GWX3 cnfg for subcommanders on before or after I have installed the other GWX3 modules, or does it not make a difference? I think I put it on after last time - seems the sensible way round.

If I still get the same result after doing that I will try rolling back the nvidia drivers. If THAT doesn't resolve it I dunno what else I can do, but meanwhile want to make sure I do everything right in respect of GWX3, which previously has never given me any problems at all.

Anyway, be pleased for any advice

While entirely unhelpful, I just read in another post that you got your dog back. Excellent news

Am I to understand you mean the CFG for SH3 Commander?

If so, this is an entirely separate/standalone software programme....simply add the CFG after you have installed GWX3.0 to a fresh install of SH3 patched to 1.4b but before running your first patrol.

If you click on my sig you will be taken to the GWX website where you will find a comprehensive set of installation instructions.

The GWX exe and 7 bin fileas as well as the GWX3.0 CFG for SH3 Commander are available from my GWX3.0 FF account (accessible from the bottom link below my sig)

yes Jim - and I did all that yesterday, and then got a problem. Today I started again and have installed the GWX3.exe and bins on a clean and patched install again, and everything is running as it should . I have not put the CFG for Sub commander on however, as I was scared the whole thing would go pear-shaped again if I did that, and I am wondering if, when I put it all on yesterday, I may have put the Sub commander cfg on before the GWX3 stuff - but I think that is unlikely; I would not have meant to do that.
My suspicions now are centred on nHancer, the latest version, which is necessary to work with the current nvidia drivers.

I spose I cannot now put cfg sub commander files on, even though I would have liked to, as I have started a career. I have'nt put any mods on or used the Jones yet either (sigh). still, I am back on the briny. That will do for now

HI,
If you don't put the config files in SH3CMDR, you cannot use it with SH3GWX3.0.
Here is what I suggest: make a copy of your SilentHunterIII folder and rename it SilentHunterIII_copy. If anything goes bad, all you have to do is delete the original and make another copy and rename it SilentHunterIII and place it into your Ubisoft folder.
Now you can do anything you want to the original without any harm.
I suspect the problem is with the nhancer program. I have had trouble with it and no longer use it.
Also make sure your video card has the up to date drivers.

Irish, this I have done. Great minds and all that In fact, I now have a 'vanilla' copy without any upgrades or mods apart from the patch, and a GWX3 copy safely squirreled away..

I am about to add the CNFG Sub Commander and shut my eyes when the game launches again.

If I was sensible I would wait until we get our copy of Windows 7 as I understand you have to start with a clean drive with that, so I will lose the game then anyway - but I want to get back on the water NOW!

Yes, have the latest nVidia drivers Interesting what you say about nHancer - the older version seemed ok.

thanks for that Irish, appreciated

Oh Jim, I hang my head in shame... it wasn't nHancer, or nVidia, or my dear old computer playing up... it was ME!

When I downloaded the CNFG Sub commander files from your site, I thought it was the whole package - Sub Commander AND the GWX configs. Now, tonight, when I go to read your instructs, I realised this is not so. No wonder it all went a bit peculiar!

All is on now, apart from the couple of mods I use and behaving perfectly.

Too impatient to get on, that my trouble; rushed on when I should have stopped and read. Hmph. I go stand in corner. Dipstick...

SheWolf,
Don't you know that standing in the corner is politically incorrect now? Studies show that this will harm your developing sense of self worth and scar you for life, perhaps leading to a life of recluse and remorse, to say nothing about a warped sex life.
Better to blame Bill Gates for making the computer so damn hard for an ordinary person to master. And that stupid GWX team for not making the program idiot proof.
After all YOU ARE A SPECIAL PERSON and you deserve better.
