Default RIP Harvey McGeorge

Mr. Harvey McGeorge died earlier this week. I seriously doubt anyone here besides me knew him.

But he served his country honourably for almost fifty years.

We had similar backgrounds as we both started out as EOD troops. Of course Harvey's class was about a 100 years before mine.

This started him in his rather unique career of working ordnance intelligence issues. It was not a glamorous job but a necessary one.

Harvey was a "behind the scenes" type of guy. There were times where he got credit and some publicity but they represented but a tiny portion of his service to our country. He did not get a lot of public recognition and he did not want or need any.

Like many heros, his deeds are known only to a few. Even after death, much of what he did on behalf of our country must remain shrouded in secrecy.

Those who worked with Harvey know what he accomplished and how important his work was to the security of our nation.

To those citizens, of the United States, who he helped keep safe, I hope some will spare a kind thought to an unknown patriot who loved his country and dedicated his entire adult life to service.

Harvey McGeorge examplified the Marine Corps motto

Semper Fidelis - Always faithful.

Thank you for allowing me to share this.

I respect and appreciate his service to our nation. RIP Marine

From the halls of Montezuma, to the shores of Tripoli,
We fight our country’s battles in the air, on land and sea.
First to fight for right and freedom, and to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title of United States Marine.

Our Flag’s unfurled to every breeze from dawn to setting sun.
We have fought in every clime and place, where we could take a gun.
In the snow of far off northern lands and in sunny tropic scenes,
You will find us always on the job, the United States Marines.

Here’s health to you and to our Corps, which we are proud to serve.
In many a strife we’ve fought for life and never lost our nerve.
If the Army and the Navy ever look on heaven’s scenes,
They will find the streets are guarded by United States Marines.
