Default USPS gets worse and worse

http://federaltimes.com/index.php?S=4186226

5 day delivery eh? I am sure people are going to flock to your already crappy delivery system to pay more for slower delivery.

USPS is suffering in my view because people prefer to have their stuff delivered within a reasonable timeframe. When I am told estimated delivery is on the 14th it should not need to be sitting in Dallas until the 15th to be delivered later.

When I buy from a place that uses UPS most of the time. My package is delivered extremely quickly. And I can believe the delivery date. If they cant compete against that then they have issues.

The usps is a goverment run enterprise. Cant wait till they get their hands on my health care

UPS gets my buisness as well.

I ship stuff clear accross the country and it gets there in 2 or 3 days without any special charges.

Health care is a different issue. When you have nothing you have little choice. But with mail we DO have a choice and that is what matters. UPS is so much faster and you don't have to sit and watch your order sitting in nontransit for an entire day.

This is just getting unreal tho. They had over a decade to adapt to lack of paper mail income by investing in tech to improve their transit times. Fedex for instance has a fleet of single engine craft to speed up delivery to areas away from the cities.

I am not going to flame but.....

1. Need to check the facts before speaking...
2. Need to be sensitive to who might work at USPS that might be offended at what is being said...particularly when the facts do not necessarily bear it out.
3. Does UPS and/or FEDEX deliver on Saturdays without an additional surcharge?
4. Sure there are some 5 day delivery places...have been for months now.
5. You mean the USPS lets mail sit for a full 24 hours? Well, that is NOT my personal experience...now if you mean that a scan on the package and the tracking information does not show it is moving...yep, that is true. However, that is because while UPS scans everything (barring human error) at each stage of the game, USPS did not used to and is having to catch up.

You got horror stories? I will believe it. But for each horror story you can come up with, I can come up with a person whose life was saved because a carrier called 911 concerned about the resident not picking up their mail, or how about the clerk who drove 98 miles one way just to deliver a halloween costume to a child on halloween day - the child was dying of lukemia and the shipper had mailed it with the wrong city, state, and zip code causing it to be misrouted.

How about the manager who drove 150 miles to personally deliver some medication - the medication had been shipped using a rival company but they somehow dropped it off at a USPS facility, it was Sunday, and the person had to have the meds.

I do not care what organization you talk about, you will find good and bad. However, behind that organization are real live people - and generally those people care about their work and are proud of what they do.

OH, by the way...5 day delivery does not mean it will take 5 days to get it there when it used to take 2 or 3. It means they are looking at only sending the carrier out on the street 5 days a week instead of the curent 6 (or I can even remember when it was 7) days a week.

I cringe whenever I order something and I find it was shipped USPS. I ordered a couple used books on Amazon back on Monday. The seller is in the Detroit area. That is only a 3 hour drive from where I live. They still aren't here. A few months ago I ordered a battery charger and SDHC memory card from Amazon. They were shipped from one of Amazon's warehouses in the Detroit area. They were shipped via USPS and it took over a week for them to travel 3 hours northward. When you get something from UPS or FedEx you know you can get it in a timely fashion, even if it is shipped cross country on a truck.

We both know its not particuarlly the people working for the USPS it is the huge beaurocricy that is the federal goverment which makes the usps not exactly stellar.

Frankly I dont care whom I might offend, Im just saying that if given a choice of using the usps or ups I'll opt for the latter every time.

Haha, beat me to it, my thoughts exactly.

I really don't have an issue with the USPS service, as long as I do not have to go inside a post office. When I do, it's worse than kidney stones. Insanely long lines; lumbering, slow, indifferent postal workers; and only 2 windows open out ot 10.

*My brother-in-law and a good friend work for USPS, but honestly, the service in the PO is terrible no matter how many good folks work for the USPS.

There are good folks everywhere. And my issue isnt with the unionized employees of the USPS but the company. Which seem to find it perfectly acceptable to be subpar with its competitors.
