Is something amiss here (nVidia question)?
As some may have seen by my screenshots in the other games screenshot thread, I have been playing Red Alert 3 lately. Every so often in the game I will get some strange crashes. Needless to say I have begun to think that my video card may be overheating (XFX nVidia 8600GT I got a year ago). However, when I check the nVidia Control Panel there is nothing to suggest it is. In the shot I am about to post, I have just Alt + Tabbed out of RA3 straight to the Control Panel. The temp is 72*C (highest I saw was 74*C). The card is idling at 53*C right now. With that said, do you think my card is overheating? I know cards can get pretty hot, even hotter than mine. Here is my real question, though. See the pic.
In the pic the fan is set for Automatic Fan Control. There is 0.00% next to the temperature. I assume that is the current speed of the fan, which is stopped. When I Alt + Tabbed out of the game it was still 0.00%. Is that normal? Am I looking at it right? Is something wrong? I guess I just got myself paranoid (I hope). My drivers are the latest - 181.20. |

Use this utility by EVGA:
http://www.evga.com/precision/ You can run this program with the Nvidia cards, no problem. In game, you can display all your temps and control fan speeds, also, clock your card. It is a nice utility. I use it just for FPS and heat readings while I play games. Check it out. Also, my Nvidia 9800GT runs about 55-60 degrees C when playing SH4 or COD WaW. So, yes your temps might be getting a bit hot.
