Just gotta vent about people "discovering" the internet

In my case it is my Father.

I love the man. He is such a good decent man. I wish him nothing but good luck and a long healthy life. He is less my Father and more my best friend.

But I just gotta vent here.

Evidently within the last month, my Father has discovered the Internet. I think this is great. However because the Internet is new to him, everything he finds on the Internet he thinks is new to everyone.

So he is doing what everyone does when they first discover the Internet. He is bombarding everyone he knows with the dreaded "Internet joke". OMG

He is sending me 10 or 20 a day! How can I tell this man, that I love and respect so much, that the crap he is sending me has been circulating the Internet for 5+ years. He is sending me the lamest oldest internet jokes, fake chain letters, badly photoshopped pictures of animals... every lamo piece of crap that we were deleting from our mail 5 years ago.

I don't want to spoil his fun but he insists that I respond to every single E-mail "did you get xxx what did you think? Guess where I found it?"

I want to reply "I don't know Father dearest, did you find it on

http://www.lamocrapforoldfartsjustdi...firsttime.com?

I don't want to hurt his feelings but I also am getting tired of having to lie about how fricking funny some lamo stuff is (or is not as is most of the cases). He won't let me ignore the mail. If I don't respond to his questions, he resends it in case it got "lost in the mail."

I know that no one can solve this problem but has anyone else experienced this phenomena where a person "discovers" the internet and feels obligated to share the "new" stuff he or she found?

I hope he never discovers the internet personality quizzes or I am a dead man.

How do you tell the person you respect the most; the person who raised you and gave you the values of life; the person who you love with all your heart; the person you wish a long and healthy life in comfortable well earned retirement to STOP SENDING ME THIS CRAP!!!

Reduce your responses to 1 a day for now, than once every 2 days for stuff like that. Worked with my old man. hehe

Can't do that because he thinks that his E-mails get "lost" so he resends them and then sends me E-mails asking me if I got the E-mail?

He is retired, he has more time than I do. Why he is wasting his time with lamo internet jokes instead of surfing for good porn and boinking his girlfriend I don't know.

Maybe I should start sending him links to good porn sites.

uh I mean I could if I ever visited those disgusting perverted sites like www.hoes.com uh which I never do. A friend must have told me about that site. Never been there myself. oops!

Well, there is another possibility to get him off your back.. Hook him up with games. When I bought SH3 last year, my dad installed it on his PC before i even could take a look at it myself. I gave him also my old Saitek X52 and my IL-2 collection to keep him busy.

My father has owned a computer for over ten years. In that time, I don't think he has played a single game. I don't think he has even opened solitaire on his computer. My Father is not a game player and I am sure he considers my hobby of computer games to be a complete waste of time (it may be a waste of time but hardly complete) :rotfl:

@DT, Yes I know that honesty is always the best policy. It is one of the values my beloved Father taught me. But he is so proud of himself now. He is learning the internet. It took him about 10 years to do so. I don't want to spoil his fun.

If I can just get him not to expect a reply from me for every single E-mail this could be a win win situation.

He can find the new stuff and send it to me

Honesty is the best policy, but it's difficult some times to be honest and respectful at the same time. Just be glad he's there to drive you crazy. I can only imagine what my Dad would be like if he were around to discover the internet. We'd probably both be in a rubber room somewhere

You are so right Sir. There will come a time, unfortunately too soon, There will be a time when I will give anything to get a lamo internet joke from my Father.

This is one of the reasons I am letting him do his thing. He is enjoying himself and that's all I want for him.

Your post puts things in perspective. I guess a few hundred lamo jokes is a small enough price to pay for a Father enjoying himself.

Just wait until we're old.... and then we discover that new fangled Ultranet that our kids have been using for years. We can send them every lamo 3D virtual reality joke that was floating around past their holographic displays years earlier !
