I was always under the impression that in RL sonarmen can get a bearing on the "pinging" active sonar.
It would be nice to have an indication on who's "pinging" you, in the game. It would help alot "escaping" from the DDs.

I don't think so, but I don't know for sure. Using passive sonar (hydrophones) he can get a bearing on propellors. At least you know where they are in general.

Tip: Figure out their circle routes and you can escape when the get in each others way and have to wait for each other.. They won't be able to find you, you might even be able to go to full speed for about 1min. Mind you you have to be sure the closest DD is making a turn away from you and theres no other DD facing you making its turn route some other place. If you're real lucky you'll have 5 or 6 DD's hunting you which makes a hol lot of noise, wait untill they get close together.... might take a long time though... and make a run for it when they practicly all face the other side. Good luck, CD Last edited by C DuDe; 09-25-08 at 04:27 AM. |

I tried once as an experiment to see if I could tell by the passive where the active pings were comming from.
Since I knew (only one warship in the area) where they were comming from I followed the sound contact expecting to get my eardrums blown in when the ping came. It never did :hmm: but we could hear in the ambient noise the pings. You would think since the amplitude ![]() Oh well the limitations of games ![]() ps; you cant hear cans splashing either nor can you hear their explosions on the passive. How many movies have you seen with the sonar man ripping off the headset in pain after a DC detonated?? |
